LETTER TO THE 0'18 FINALIST UNDERGRADUATES

in bigwaves •  7 years ago  (edited)

I’ve been seeing numerous photos of would-be graduates of our tertiary institutions here in Nigeria wearing customized design of clothes, usually on the day of their final papers. It has kept me wondering. What exactly are my miss?

PEXEL:

The sad thing is, it has even become worse now. National Bureau of Statistics conservatively writing, states that nearly 13 million Nigerians lost their jobs between 2015 till now. This should worry everyone. I’m worried! And this is happening within a space of three years; and be reminded that if the NBS which is Government-controlled gives a figure of 13 million, simply double or even triple it to get a close range figure. It must have to be multiplied over.

Our parents were more privileged, for during their years, upon graduation, there would be waiting jobs. I mean good paying jobs, not the ones some individual in cosmopolitan area like Lasgidiwake up by 4:30am to begin to prepare, leaving their homes at 5:30am, getting to office after a terrible gridlock at 7:45am, stay at their workplace until nearly 5pm, maybe without break or lunch period.

Then set to return back to their homes from about 5:30pm, and after another and maybe even worse hold-up, arriving home at 10pm if not later and same routine continues only to be paid N30,000 monthly, a meager USD92 which by the way could be made in two hours in America or other sane havens. And we expect the life expectancy of an ordinary Nigerian to last long.

Party if you wish. Wear ashoebi if it gives you joy. Celebrate if you must. Most importantly, note that till this day, Nigeria is in it’s lowest ebb, Buhari is still your President and nothing is working.

Plan ahead. Think ahead. No one promises an all-rosy path, but then also, every successful being had a funny tortuous past. You can excel if you dare.

I Don’t want you to take this to heart, just think critically in your head about what you want for yourself and for your life. It wasn't my plan to scare or intimidate anyone, but to lay facts bare.

In the end, may your ways be rough!
