The Fear of Bitcoin and Crypto Currency in General is Real and Palpable.

Over the last few years I chose to focus my energy on being a crypto currency and Bitcoin evangelist. This means that I tell anyone I can about the technology that can change their lives. Bitcoin has done wonders for my friends and I. Just a simple shift in our focus and our lives have been blessed with unbelievable opportunities.

Now my friends, family and acquaintances from years past are another story. These folks like to send me messages that I should be careful. Here are some of the things people riddled with fear like to tell me.

1. Why would you associate yourself with something that is used by criminals?

2. Bitcoin is the Devils money and a sign of the end times.

3. Bitcoin is make believe money for geeks.

4. The governments will kill Bitcoin off.

5. If the internet goes down you will lose your Bitcoin.

6. Bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme.

7. Bitcoin was created by the CIA to control the people.

8. Bitcoin will never be adopted widely.

Fear of Bitcoin is an Irrational Feeling Based on the Unknown.

The first time I did a transaction of a large amount of Bitcoin my hands were literally shaking. This fear was based on the fact that I did not want to make a mistake and lose my money. Once I became accustomed to transacting in crypto currency my fears dissipated.

I am old enough to remember when Debit Cards became popular. I have to admit if it was not for the US Navy forcing me to go on direct deposit I would have continued to happily wait in line to cash my check. I believe is was not until 1998 that I had my first debit card. I was stuck in the habit of paying cash for everything.

The Question is, "What will it take for you to let go of your Bitphobia?

Why not be part of something revolutionary for a change? Why do we as humans need the mob to approve before we accept something new and foreign? The simple answer is that we are fearful beings. Xenophobia is real whether it is about immigrants or something perceived as unnatural and foreign like Bitcoin.

"Bitcoin is the Devils money and a sign of the end times."

This made me laugh. I've never heard anyone say this but I definitely know the type of person who would say it. I have a few of the end-times-prophecy-obsessed bunch in my family. They say this sort of thing about credit cards so I'm guessing they would be even more critical of Bitcoin.

As a devout Christian, I have no idea where they get their ideas from.

At your next family get together please ask them how they feel about it and get it on camera. It sure would make for some great entertainment.

Interesante artículo. Podría decir que estoy tratando quitarme esta fobia por completo, ya que soy algo nuevo en este tema.

Que Bien!! Bienvenido al mundo de Bitcoin.

That's pretty funny... the one I mostly hear isn't really a fear so much as just a comment: "Yeah, I've heard of Bitcoins... but that's just a thing for deep nerds and gamers who spend too much time on reddit."

My only real "bitcoin fear" has been the fact that it is "small" enough that someone with the wealth of (for example) the Koch bros. could come in and pretty much systematically "take ownership" and ruin it for everyone.

Its not that easy, if a super wealthy person came in trying to buy up all the btc, they price would move up exponentially, and get really expensive to buy the last holdouts, and then we could all just move over to dash or litecoin lol

Funny how fear can keep one from trying something new.... Me I figure that as a tell-tale sign I am on the cutting edge of a grand, new adventure. Bitcoin was one of those moments and I am so glad I listened to you and took a jump off the cliff to dive in!

lol, you can say most of these things about fiat money too, but people are confident that the governments will continue pointing guns at us, so no phobia haha

Should I feel ashamed that I suffer that disease :) haha ! What a great new word.

My name is @sciampa and I am afraid of Bitcoin, mainly because I am uneducated in this new currency, however, I am trying to learn and understand it. I've read an explanation written for "5 year olds" LOL!

We all start there, then we go down the rabbit hole into a world of intrigue and opportunity. You found Steemit so you must be on the right track.

The biggest lesson the world will soon learn is that money itself is not real. Sad but most are unaware that the thing that drives us are mere virtual credits created on a general ledger. (Federal Reserve System)

We know that but the masses are holding tight to there comfort zone. Those of us who can let go and adopt to changing technology are so far ahead of the pack that it actually worries me sometimes. The masses can make our lives miserable through chaos.

I have a fear of bitcoin but it's not to do with the looming drop from the highs.... I always feel like I'm playing chicken with my money until I get it into steem or fiat. I don't feel the same way about steem or some other alts though.

You know, I have that same feeling about Steem as well. Like it is more stable but I know it could be just as volatile. I admit that I feel good when money is in BTC.

I think it's more to do with my faith in the long run. I don't have a lot of faith in btc in the long run but I do with steem. So when the steem price drops it doesn't worry me so much, I just look at it as an opportunity since that is where I want to be.

It's mostly anarcho-capitalists and computer nerds that have a fond interest in Bitcoin. I think normal people won't bother learning about Bitcoin until they actually need it in the event of a economic crisis.

Dammit! I was gonna comment #2 as soon as I saw the title. Haha You beat me to it.

That one is funny. One lady pm'ed me one time saying, "Bitcoin is the work of the devil, it is not money it does not exist." I asked her, "do you have a credit card?" She said, "of course". I said, "funny how you don't think of that as the Devils money since it is just numbers magically created in your account."

BOOM! mic drop

aren't you scared that it's voluntary? hehe
