If you have watched the presentation from Andrew Pierce, aka Blender Guru, on this year Blender conference, you know that procedural workflow has a bright future in graphics. Starting from texturing, but for modeling and sculpting as well.
At the current level of Blender development, the node editor offers some interesting things for creating a procedurally generated texture. This can be done entirely in the node editor, or maybe using some external texture and then manipulate them. I find this very interesting and already have posted about creating procedurally generated textures. There are links on the bottom of the post.
This is just a simple example of using the node editor to mix textures. But hey, quite often the simple things are the best ones 😊.
The model is a simple one as well. Here it how it looks without the textures and in flat shading.
The number of faces of this model is about 1000. The texture and the bump map did the trick.
I have mixed two textures, a rock and moss texture, using the noise texture as a mixing factor. The basic rock texture is my own, personally shot it, and then made it seamless. The moss texture is from textures.com. The bump map is made just with the noise texture.

This technique is quite nice and creates nice looking model with not a lot of effort.

Someone else on YouTube tackled this topic and I even used his node setup to make something fairly similar for a project, and it produces really great results.
You'll have to use two different textures, a moss texture and a rock texture (or any other texture you want), but the results are good and you even have enough customization options.

I have watched this one.
It is very simular ....If you add a color ramp on the noise textures in the node tree above, more or less that is the result. The color ramp is great tool and extremly powerfull for customization :)
