BlockTrades' Bitcoin Cash ABC wallet is open for business again

in blocktrades •  6 years ago  (edited)

Our Bitcoin Cash wallet has been down for over a week due to the uncertainty surrounding the recent Bitcoin Cash ABC and Bitcoin Cash SV forks of the blockchain. Issues such as lack of replay protection, varying pricing methods across exchanges, and threats of hash wars between the forks led us to delay re-enabling the wallet until things seemed to calm down a bit. It also didn't help that the calming occurred when we were in middle of Thanksgiving holiday, when most of our US staff was enjoying some well-deserved vacation time with their families.

But I'm happy to announce that we've officially re-enabled our Bitcoin Cash ABC wallet today and you can once again buy and sell it on our site.

Tomorrow we'll be evaluating available pricing info for Bitcoin Cash SV, with an eye towards enabling it tomorrow if all goes well.

Important note for BlockTrades API users and users of old bitcoin cash mappings: we've discontinued the use of the coin_type bch (former coin type for Bitcoin Cash). We have two new coin_types: bchabc and bchsv. This means that any old mappings using the bch coin type will no longer work with our API and new mappings will have to be created for the new coin types.

It's good to hear that particular scuffle is clearing enough to get business moving again, @blocktrades. I don't have investments in either, so I'm good, and probably wouldn't have been that happy about a fork, so that's fine.

But for all those who do I'm sure having you all up and open for business with Bitcoin ABC and potentially SV tomorrow will be welcomed.

On another note, since you run a witness, I'm wondering what your thoughts might be about Ned's announcement today regarding laying off most of their staff at Steemit Inc. I believe it will prove to be a positive move for everyone eventually, even if short term it does something to add to the FUD, or at least give more fodder to the pot stirrers who don't seem to need much to get going.

You?

It is unfortunate that the current pullback in crypto has led to such dramatic layoffs, but there does seem to be one positive coming out of it: it looks like Steemit is now focusing on optimizing the blockchain and supporting code to reduce the costs of maintaining the network and associated frontends.

I've been advocating for this for literally years now because it's been the biggest impediment to decentralization, new businesses, more exchange listings, etc. So while I'm saddened that it had to come at such a toll in human misery, I think the Steem community will emerge stronger for it in the end.

Thanks for the Update!...

Congratulations on getting the BCC wallet back online!

Hi @blocktrade, why are some of the Steemit Team laid off as a solution or a solution to overcome the current crisis, what do you think causes the #steem price to be too down?
Do you also think the reason is because fake investors are saving so many #steem assets? Then they put up a strategy to sell it when #steem prices skyrocketed?
This is the end of the year, maybe this is an important moment for those who are fake investors who are getting ready to wait for high prices, do you think #steem can overcome this reality?
