Hi again everyone!
So, I had another really busy day- it's 11pm as I write this, and we only just got home.
Today, we visited a kangaroo farm- but not just a normal farm, a petting zoo. I wasn't sure what to expect, but the site listed a lot of exotic animals, and I wanted to see what they had. Truth be told, I was a bit nervous- between the kangaroos, the emus and the capybaras, there were some rather large animals.
We ended up in the capybara place first. Strangely, they were in with ducks, goats, chickens, cavies and a turkey (most of which couldn't be petted- the goats were quite friendly, but the birds and cavies were a bit timid). The capybaras themselves could be, though- it's a bit intimidating, since they are large and have some big teeth, but they weren't aggressive. They felt really weird too- like straw from a broom, with really rough leathery skin underneath it.
After that, we headed to the kangaroo field. The first thing we saw was an albino wallaroo (basically a smaller kangaroo), which looked a bit like a giant rat, but was very friendly. There were smaller wallabies too, but they were very scared and hard to approach. Eventually, we saw red kangaroos- the kind that grow to be human-sized (though these ones were young). I was honestly afraid to touch them, but was surprised when I did- it started rubbing its head on my arm, and was extremely soft, like really short wool. It was also very hot to the touch.
I think the scariest part, though, was the emu. It was in with the kangaroos, wandering around. Fully stretched, it would probably be as tall as me, with big dinosaur feet and an intimidating beak. I wasn't sure we were allowed to touch it, but to our surprise, one of the staff members offered to let us feed it. We ended up trying, and it was strange- the bird would take the food right out of your hand, with its head sideways, and you could feel a little scrape from the beak against you. It wasn't painful or anything though, just a bit startling.
Anyways, that's gonna be it for today. Hopefully you enjoyed this post!
