Jordan Peterson Says Atheists Deep Down DO Believe in God

Jordan Peterson claims, in a debate with Matt Dillahunty, that deep down, atheists believe in God, in yet another example of his sophistry and religious fundamentalism showing through

What do you think about this absurd claim?

I like Jordan Peterson but when he talks about religion I do cringe a bit

What is there to like about him?

A lot of his self help advice is sound, and of course the fact that he opposes SJWs

There's a lot to like about Hitler. If you can't see the good in the vilest sort of men that's your failure.

Happy

I think it is projection.

Deep down, many religious people realize there isn't a god, and that a god does not give you the sense of morality that you have. You are right that unfortunately this man is an excellent salesperson of his ideas.

He definitely uses a lot of the tired, old Christian apologetics wrapped in sophistry. Dillahunty is a good person to unwrap it as he's been dealing with those same arguments on his show for years.

yeah Matt is really good

deep down Peterson is an atheist. One day he will realize it.

haha, that would be interesting

I have been seeing this guy around for the past few months - Joe Rogan, Bill Mahr - and there was something about him that bothered me. Thanks for putting words to it - pseudoscience.

there is something about him alright!

I like Matt and Jordan, specificaly his lectures on myth and meaning but when it comes down to Petersons wierd nuanced pov on god he shows his hand and speaks nonsence.
Intersting to me is that people wraped up in identiy politics also make the same type of unfalsifiable claims that Peterson is a racist/ mysogynist he just doesnt know it. Peterson’s warings about Identiy politicts are interesting, on religion ... to each his own

What precisely is interesting about Peterson's warnings about identity politics?

Pretty much all his videos on the subject, identity politics are driving further divide in the US, thought policing in the University is restricting the freedom of the liberal arts. Also look into Bret Weinstien and what happend to him at evergreen college. Talk about a clash between the the extreme left and the rational left ...then radical right stepped in and shit went crazy.

Peterson is a lot like Reza Aslan. When he is being interviewed by an idiot he comes off looking pretty good. His ideas don't stand up when he is speaking with people of above average intelligence.

I do believe it.

I think the better question rather than if atheists believe in God, is: what do atheists think God is. Is He an idea, or more?

Yeah. I'd agree with Jordan on this. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this way.

Dude, the moral compass IS God. God isn't the source, He is the product. He is the evolution of the Human will and good. The question isn't if it exists; it does, but how much He exists.

I think Jordan Peterson says A LOAD OF OLD TWADDLE in general.

Deep down, Jordan Peterson is an arrogant doosh.

Actually, it's not even deep down. It's just below the surface.

Come to think of it, it oozes out from his dank and dark innards and covers his skin with a greasy film and putrid stank.

That is all.

yup. in many ways peterson challenges my thinking. this tho the non-religious are religous tho just don't know it is such a tired lame argument. so lame its the essence of chapter to the agnostics in the AA "big book". on a related note i also it seems where he and sam harris diverge is perterson's playing lose and easy with definition of truth... it seems that what peterson is saying is that religious ideas are a certain kind of truth though not truth in a conventional sense. i don't get it. i'm sure it drives sam harris kray

Jordan Peterson always has to try to act like the smartest person in the room. When in all honesty, I've just never been that impressed with him. I mean the man has to have some credentials as a professor and that's commendable, but like David said, he is selling himself to only Anti SJW people online, which is a waste really.

Very nice video !!

You have a point in the critique of Peterson's tautological claims towards atheists, but you use this as a false basis to dismiss him entirely. Just because he is not completely right does not make him completely wrong.

very nice post. i think it's world news.
