Blog #50: Lunar New Year - Something is called “Traditional Value”

in blog •  7 years ago

With us, Lunar new year celebration is something called traditional value. I see some foreigners asked “Should Vietnam quit up the Lunar New Year Celebration?” Absolutely no. It’s not gonna happen. Should Europe and North America quit Christmas Celebration?

Night market - selling stuffs for Lunar new year

People said that Lunar New Year Celebration is a kind of “waste of money and time”, that is so ridiculous. Are you supporting that people work all day long for all years? Come on. We are not machine and people need holidays to take a rest, visit their relatives and friends, have time for family reunion.

I agree that Lunar New Year Celebration is a waste of money, but we are willing to lose our money for it, for a spiritual value which is meanningful more than just a festival with us. It is important as much as Christmas, Thanksgiving or any Western equivalent. It has cultural, spiritual, historical, familial significance. That is why we will never get rid of it.

This tree is indispensable for Tết

How can we live without traditional value and let it is gradually fading out, let sense of ritual is passed and nothing remains. Isn’t that sad?

All festivals help us enjoy and celebrate our life !! No matter what the reason it is on which they are based. We should find an excuse to celebrate and not an excuse to NOT celebrate.

Nice post hangbee ;)

its traditional markets look colorful

very many firecrackers, then in the picture below what fruit?

I didn´t quite know about this tradition but i agree 100% with you. I´m mexican and canceling your tradition would be the equivalent of people canceling Day of the Death for us, it just simply can not happen. People need to understand the importance of heritage and that, even though money is greatly spent, the value that it adds to our cultures is ten times more worth it.
