Tesla Semi. I think everybody know what about I am writing. I want to tell you how I see this. It would be my opinion from small transport company.
For these who don't know what I am talking about Tesla predented his first truck. It is look like this
It Isn't so preety. Yeah It is true. But future cars will looks like these one I think. But let's talk about transport and trucks.
Tesla ensure that this truck will has 300 and 500 miles of range on one charge. It will depend from price. So it will be in sequence 500 and 800 km
Predicted price? 150 000$ and 180 000$. Honestly it Isn't to much for transport companies. Of course normal trucks are cheaper but everyone predict that prices would be very higer. Second case is that exploatation costs are much lover because of electric engine. Of course we do not use fuel in Tesla ;) Electric engine will be more rentable.
From my company side this idea is at this moment impossible. What is interesting that range wouldn't be the biggest problem. Lack of infrastructure would be :) Unfortunately any of small transport companies wouldn't buy Tesla at this moment before that this solution "pass the exam" in other company. It is logic I think. There aren't any net of serwices in Europe, superchargers and etc.
But one thing shocked me at all. Trucks will be produced in about 2-3 years but Tesla take success right now. I think order Tesla is good marketing action. Huge advertisment of "beeing green". Friendly enviroment company and etc.
About one hour after presentation of Tesla Girteka - Lithuanian spedition company order one of this truck. Without official price and without extact date of delivery. Wird thing. First order from Europe was make by Lithuanian company.
Next was German DHL - ordered 10 Trucks. Their goal will be short shuttle services. Mostly one day transports
And here I am searching for Tesla chance. There are a lot of orders. Mostly in USA so money for next development is gained. Also there have more time to send this trucks to clients. If DHL starts tests this solution and if it will work it would be no problem for that big company to built supercharger at every ramp at all warehouses or parking place. It would be chance for small companies like mine. Because if DHL has warehouses at every 200-300km then it will be no problem with superchargers. Drivers can load this trucks at his breake. If we would have supercharger at our client warehouse maybe we will buy electric Truck.
It would be great solution for German companies that are import ware from Belgium and Holland at every day.
From driver side I only say that position in centre of truck isn't so good and confortable. But maybe quantity of electronic solutions will help ;)
At the end I think range problem Isn't so big. In about 3-4 years batteries would sourvive few tousdands kilometres at one charge. Big companies will take this technology at next level. I will be not surprised when electric trucks overtake electric cars.
At the end I will show you polish electric car - URSUS. Are you surprised?
