The first copy of Defending My Enemy I bought was a paperback. I gave it to my best remaining friend in DC as a parting gift.
I spent $6 on it.
I decided that I wanted to re-read the book a few years later. The cheapest option was a used, hard cover, for $70.
Now, the book is going for $400 -- in paperback.
I maintain that this is a book that everybody should read; but, holy hell, I'm holding onto my copy.
I'll sit there and watch you read it if you're interested; but, I'm not gonna pass it off to just anyone.
