ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE - PLANNING AHEAD TO HELP AND HAVE FUN!

in cars •  7 years ago

Being helpful just got even more fun!

We've all seen them. Stranded vehicles on the side of the road. The people look frustrated, sometime pacing and on the phone. Their vehicle has its hood up, and you wonder what's wrong...

But, you're not a mechanic, you're heading somewhere at 60 mph, and just as soon as you see them, they're gone...

"Someone will probably help them," you say, and life goes on.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT

Most people, at least in this country, have probably been in similar situations. Sometimes, we wish that there was just more that we could do. If anything serious needed to be done, most of us would probably just matters worse.

Personally, I think that there is some room for improvement, under the hood, at least for me. One common problem that I frequently see, besides flat tires, is an engine overheating. For whatever reason, and there could be many, engines frequently overheat. Sometimes, all that is needed is some more coolant. Now there are many things that I cannot do, but carrying some coolant with me should be within my skill set.

Now, @papa-pepper doesn't just like to help though, I like to have some fun too. Lately, I've been prepared to help people who may need some coolant, but not in your typical way.

If I run into a situation where someone is in need of coolant, I've got my game plan all figured out. First, I think I'll say, "Oh, I think that I have some extra coolant with me." Then, I'll head back to my truck pop the hood. This is not what people would normally expect. At that point, I'll begin looking around under my hood. LOL!

I recently found a spot in from of my windshield washer fluid reservoir that just happens to fit a jug of coolant very nicely. I know this, but whoever is stranded on the side of the road will probably not know this.

Can you imagine their surprise when I pull a full jug out from under the hood, exclaiming "Here it is!" and hand it to them? Well, we will have to wait and see what happens.

PLANNING AHEAD & A STRANGE STRANGER

Since I've been trying to take care of my on vehicle issues more frequently, I thought that I might as well plan on being helpful to others too. Now, I'll be prepared to not only help myself, but others, if this particular issues happens to arise. I was thinking about it the other day, and figured that I might as well share it with all of you. Who knows how many people could be blessed because of this.

I think it would be a situation not soon forgotten either. People seem to remember the kindness of strangers, and helping out in this way would help make me the strangest of strangers! LOL. I can just see them telling the story around the water at work later, "and then he reached under the hood and pulled out a full jug!"

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

You crack me up, Papa Pepper! Love your neighborly ways done with a flare! Add this to your road-side assistance readiness: The Infowars Power Pack is, literally, the best thing since sliced bread. Its tiny, holds a charge forever and jump start the heaviest duty truck on the road! I love this things bc you can also charge your phone or laptop while camping or have a lamp in your tent for reading at night. It costs $150 and its amazing thing to have if you lose power for a few days. It starts my car quicker than even using another running car's battery. Here's some pics so you can see how small this little monster is:

you can buy it at https://www.infowarsstore.com. Have a great day, PP!

I'm pretty sure one of these little things bailed us out this summer after we got stuck at a campground with a dead battery (note to self: make sure the phone is unplugged from the charger when the car isn't running!). It took a little thought to figure out how to make it jump the car, but it worked great. And it is definitely tiny.

Pretty good looking thing to have handy. We have a slightly larger one, that probably isn't as good.

Your 'proof of stranger' made me laugh.

I particularly remember being one of those people who stopped back in the late 80's. It was on a rather long barren stretch of highway and practically no one had a mobile phone back then. The woman was nervous - you know the stories about women getting taken advantage of and worse when a stranger stops to 'help'. They were pretty common back then but I was able to pull out the small gym bag that the big phones were in and let her call a friend to pick her up. Today it's uncommon not to have a phone and although I worry about some people who are stranded, I am very glad that almost no one is without a phone.

I agree with you on that!

Be prepared, great idea.

Might as well! (just in case someone else wasn't)

yeah agree

Nice @papa-pepper ! Creative and fun. It seems for us that we run into people that ran out of fuel. No guard rails, no where to pull off, dead out of gas.

Yeah, that happens too!

This made me smile, very nice post @papa-pepper!

You may already know about The Survival Podcast

He has a great big truck, and in his truck box, he has a battery and inverter setup. So he can jump cars, inflate tires, and run the refrigerator in the case of a black out.

He has two extra, deep cycle batteries, connected to the alternator with diodes (so that it won't steal power from the starting battery) and those batteries have an inverter connected to them on a piece of plywood, that you can plug things into.

During a power outage, you can leave your truck idling, and run a cord into the fridge and the radio.

Interesting, @bluerthangreen was just down there at his place for an event!

Jack Spirko rocks it...

I enjoyed reading your post and got a lot of laughing. I can think that I am so laughing so much that I feel so much better that you can not post in your post so everyone can post it.

Great idea papa 😁

nice your post @papa-pepper

very useful to know the brother, thank you for the information brother @papa-pepper

Hah, making life extra fun huh! What a kind man you are, spreading around some helpfulness :D

Honestly, I know so little of cars, I would be afraid to stick a jug under my hood for fear if it being in the way of some invisible necessity, or it becoming too hot!

Oh right, don't do that! This one is tucked away on a convenient little location. Good point though!

@papa-pepper, you definitely without a doubt are very creative. No doubt ... but one question. Was there no room for a gallon of coolant in the back of the truck? :)

That just doesn't make it as fun.

I guess you're right cause I can imagine the expression on people when you pull out a picknickbasket with food that needs to stay warm from there...lol

Hi papa-pepper. I know @bluerthangreen and @allforthegood and they recommended following you. Thanks for the info.

So...... If I'm ever driving through your neck of the woods, I'll stop on the side of the road with the hood up and wait, patiently.

And when you arrive and ask what the problem is, I'll say my car has run out of STEEM!!!

Helping out people like that is actually really cool. I have a wee battery pack in my car with jumper leads. It's really neat to be at the supermarket when a woman battling three kids under 5, the weekly shop, and late for a birthday party, can't start her car.

It only took two minutes to get her going again. It cost me nothing, but time I wold have spent waiting for my wife anyway. And it really made her day. She was very grateful.

It's the small things that you do for people that makes the difference.

Here we have to be self reliant and on occasion we do see people stranded at the side of the road. I am the some. I carry extra coolant, extra oil, fire extinguisher, towing cable, rope, jumper cables, extra water, a 3 ton hydraulic jack and a full tool kit. That covers about ever kind of motor break down. Nothing if you have a nervous break down. I can't say how many times those things have come in handy, but I am grateful that I carry them in my jeep.

HaHa @papa-pepper! Good one! Yes, I would certainly be one of those people telling the story after the fact..."and then he reached under the hood and pulled out a full jug!" I imagine you will have a future post chronicling the 1st stranger to benefit from your preparedness. I hope they allow you to snap a good selfie with them ;)

Yay! And speaking of kindness to strangers, your ghost peppers made their way to @doctorcrypto, who made ghost pepper salt with them, which then made its way to me! And then we challenged each other to #hahahabanero (but with any hot pepper)

Boom! This is for you. https://steemit.com/funny/@improv/hahahabanero-or-any-pepper-really-courtesy-of-ghost-peppers-grown-by-papa-pepper-and-sent-to-me-in-the-form-of-ghost-pepper-salt

Y'all pay attention to that list that @cecicastor gave because I carry almost the exact same list of things in my pickup. I have a milk crate that has a gallon of coolant, water and oil. Then I have a big bottle of brake fluid, ATF fluid, and Power steering fluid. That's pretty much every fluid you could need. Oh and a can of WD40. It works for breaking loose stubborn bolts and it can act as starting fluid in a pinch too.

@papa-pepper check that gallon of coolant now and then. The vibrations could wear a hole in that jug. You might want to cover it with an old rag. That way you protect the bottle AND you have something to wipe your hands with when your done.

Great post and information to get out at this time of year especially ! I guess you still need coolant where you live haha !I always carry a roadside emergency kit in my car , gloves and try to also keep spare oil and coolant etc. In a bucket ! We need to up here in Canada with the snow and current icy road conditions !! Thanks foe sharing !!👍✌😀

We bought a campervan in Australië And in the first month we had a Broken timebelt. Nothing more fun than that.

good idea Papa, would STRONGLY suggest you talk to mobile-joat before you open any radiator caps, the results are faster than your friendly snakes, and could put you out of action.
