Cats, Heights and Jumping Power IV

in cats •  5 years ago

It is an owners responsibility to understand the inherent risks of height and the possibility of a cat reaching for even higher surfaces depending on surroundings as they could easily leverage other surfaces to get even higher if they so wanted to.

Cats possess great flexibility in the spine and are able to spring off the ground with much power by using their rear legs. Observing a cat’s movements will show a small buffer zone in which they generate the power of a jump in their legs.

Shifting of weight and posture before springing up with an instant burst of power is a common sight when looking at cats that are jumping. Great confidence and muscle coordination are required to carry out such manoeuvres. Some cats may approach jumps with a little more caution and time as they overcome feeling nervous in their surroundings.
