I love @dragosroua's theme for today, "Life Hacks."
A good life hack is one of life's simple pleasures. You figure out how to squeeze toothpaste better or crack an egg perfectly, whatever the random thing is, and it's like hitting an upgrade block in Paper Mario.
My favorite life hack has been to slow way down in the morning. I spend at least two hours "warming up" for the day before I get going.
There's a lot of shit to do in the morning if you follow some of the basic protocols of life. Meditation, healthy breakfast, exercise, shower, all of that stuff adds up real quick. There's no way to do it all without allowing for the slowest morning routine.
I'm talking two, two and a half hours. THE SLOWEST.
It feels amazing. For me, it's usually waking up and walking outside in the sun for 20 mins, then meditating for 20 mins, showering, eating breakfast, and sometimes getting coffee. I often read a book for 15-30 mins too. All of that is the best way to start the day.
The mind blowing variable is that if I do this then work for 4 hours, I will get much more work done compared to if I rush the morning routine and do 5-6 hours. It's more productive.
Once upon a time I thought "I'm not going to be lazy, Im going to get right to work" but now I understand that the number of hours is not the best variable to focus on... the morning routine sets the tone for the entire day, both in work and in recreation. Feeling well-rested and focused is always worth an extra time investment.
To me, this is the ultimate life hack. Starting every day in a pleasant way, giving the morning its full due.

To master how to be slow in a world full of "fast ones" is really a hack :) I've been trying to be slower for a year now. Had enough with the "Formula 1" rat race that I used to call life...

This would be nice, but now I'm waking up 6 and at work 6:45 with 30 min drive. Having 2 hours morning it's not an option for me.

I like your idea of a slow morning helping the rest of the day go better. I also know that it's definitely possible to do 5-6 hours of work in a shorter period of time if you're focused on it. I used to do the equivalent of 20 hours of work in 12, by spliting up 2 hours one night and 10 hours the next day. Worked great for newspaper layouts and beating weekly deadlines. :)
