Trusting God and Trusted Friends

Having a sponsor in recovery is often good for more than just avoiding a drink or drug, sometimes it is good just having a friend who has an opinion you trust.

Today was one of those days for me.

About to make a major life choice.

If you have been following me then you know that I was looking at buying a house on a land contract. I had met with a guy yesterday and was going to meet with him today to finalize the paperwork, until I started having second thoughts.

That is the way God has always worked in my life. He gives me "Hints" or "Feelings" that lead me one way or another. Often, someone will make a comment that goes right in line with how I was thinking about something and lead me in a certain direction. Last night I could not sleep at all thinking about whether I should finalize this paperwork or not, to the point where I decided I needed to discuss it with someone else and get another opinion.

Biblical teaching

The book of Proverbs says in 15:22
"Without consultation, plans are frustrated, But with many counselors they succeed."
It also says in Proverbs 11:14
"Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."

I decided to trust in the Lord and listen to those I trust for their opinion and sure enough there was pretty much a consensus that I needed to think more on the decision I was about to make.

For once in my life I listened to what others were telling me. I did not go and fill out the papers, and more important, did not give the guy the $1000 he wanted for the application. I decided that I was going to just find a small apartment and live there for a year. I will see what the future holds instead of jumping into a 30 plus year commitment.

Back to searching.

Now it is time to keep looking for an apartment that I can afford and can deal with living in. I still have 5 weeks until my notice is up and I have to move. I am going to trust in God and his direction for my life. I will trust that he will make the path clear that he wants me to follow.

Please keep praying for me!
