City Tomb

in cityscapephotography •  6 years ago

Taking a walk along the Freedom Trail in Boston you come to a strange an unique sight, Copp's Hill Burying Ground. Situated in in the middle of the city within a residential area this cemetery is both historically significant and a little unnerving as well.

Named after shoemaker William Copp, Copp’s Hill Burying Ground is the final resting place and cemetery of merchants, artisans and craft people who lived in the North End. Copp’s Hill was Boston’s largest colonial burying ground, dating from 1659. The area also played a significant roll in the US Civil War.

The historical significance of a place like this and the fact that it still exists as the city build and grow around it is a true testament to the importance of remembering and understanding the past.

A place to remember and rest, a tribute to those who rest.

That's really looking cool historical place and your photography is amazing

Of course I had no idea that such an antiquity will be preserved, of course it has to be a central part of the city, the photo record has been great

Beautiful photography.
