College Sports Weekend Wrapup

I mentioned on Friday about what I would probably be doing on Saturday around noon. What I didn't realize is that while the Spartans were playing Oakland University, Michigan would also be playing Oregon.

Needless to say, the Michigan State game when much better than I was afraid it would and I found myself flipping back and forth between that game and the UofM/Oregon game. In the end, the latter ended up being the more interesting game. For me it is always a good day when the Wolverines lose. Especially when it is a lost that will most likely knock them down in the rankings.

I personally don't feel like they are a number 5 team. Sure they have had some big wins, but I think the hype got ahead of them. They had a pretty big loss earlier in the week to an unranked Illinois team so this overtime loss by one point to Oregon has to be equally devastating.

I wouldn't say the Spartans are back on track with their win over Oakland, but I think they are getting there. They should have some pretty easy games over the next week or so going into conference play.

Ohio State kind of came out of nowhere for me to be in the top 5. I am actually a bit surprised by that. I was happy to see that they also lost to an unranked team this past week. The dominating win by Minnesota should move them down in the ranks quite a bit I would think.

Probably one of the best basketball games I watched this weekend was the Memphis vs. Tennessee game. It was actually a lot closer than the final score of 51 to 47 indicates. As you can see it was an extremely defensive game and there were some awesome plays on both sides of the ball. I am definitely going to keep both of these teams in mind when I am filling out my NCAA bracket come March.

Other big upsets include Wake Forest beating Xavier (which isn't too surprising for me), and Rutgers handing it to number 22 Seton Hall with a huge 20 point victory.

The win by Kentucky isn't too surprising. I pretty much knew how that game was going to go about two minutes in.

Finally, the Army/Navy football game is always a pretty big deal in our house since my dad was in the Navy and @mrsbozz's dad was in the Army. I don't think either of them watch this game every year, but my wife and I do and we always give each other a little grief each time the game is on. I was really happy to see Navy come away with a decisive victory. Army took the early lead, but couldn't keep up with Navy in the long run.

My brother went to Stephen F Austin and it was great seeing that they beat #1 Duke a few weeks ago. Nothing like a small town / small college upset.

I am a big fan of upsets too. Unless it is a team that I am invested in, I usually am cheering for the underdog.

Damn bro, you are a SportsTalk WHALE! Hopefully one day the token will be worth a penny or something close to it ;0)

That would be pretty nice! I am trying. I really don't have as much as some people on here!
