The Art of Eloquent and Poetic Speech

in communication •  3 years ago

Ever wondered how people become good speakers? And what you need to do to become just like them? Well, I have been researching deeply on this topic and I might have an answer to that.

First of all, for those people who have watched the Netflix series, “Peaky blinders”, we should appreciate the somewhat poetic language Thomas Shelby uses once in a while.

For instance in the part where he is talking to the priest, Tatiana and the other lady, and he’s asked what his father did for a living. He says, poetically, “Well, he stole horses and he told fortunes. Often, he would tell a man that his horse would be stolen and they would marvel at his powers when it was.”

There’s also another part where Thomas Shelby speaks with Grace when he goes to her place for the first time and here is an excerpt of their dialogue.

Grace: Do you want tea?
Thomas: Tea? No.
Grace: I have rum
Thomas: Actually, tea it is.
Grace: Are you trying to impress me?
Thomas: Yes! And do you have biscuits?
Grace: No, they attract mice.
Thomas: People look different at home.
Grace: In what way?
Thomas: Off-guard.
Grace: Should I be on my guard?
Thomas: No. I’m a man who drinks tea.

We also have another part where Thomas also says:

“And there is a part of me that is unfamiliar to myself and I keep finding myself there.”

The word play in these parts is out of this world and this goes to show how good we can actually become at speaking when we set our minds to it.

There is this informative post on how to improve your poetic speaking skills and become a smooth talker based on some of the speakers who have ever lived and what they recommended as the path to such amazing skills.

Eloquence and artistic speech is actually not that hard to learn. It is all about listening to the experts and following what they encourage others to do to become great speakers too.
