I saw an official WHO graphic debunking the idiotic nonsense about 5g causing COVID19. I dunno if it was real, but I do know it’s too little, too late. CV19 is far and away the largest external challenge the developed world has faced in my lifetime, in terms of both the human and economic toll. But it pales next to the internal threat of populism. If people would learn the right lesson, we could come out stronger on the other side. Heck, not even “people,” broadly. If only professionals and experts would start taking the problem of populism seriously.
Predictably, they won’t. Popular Mechanics debunked every claim the Loose Change people made, and that was the last of anyone addressing the fully half of Americans who are set loose upon society while so impossibly stupid as to believe that George W Bush was at least partly responsible for 9/11.
Anti-vaxers promote idiocy unchecked, and now a solid majority of Nevada’s Republican state legislators are anti-vax.
Anti-GMO “organic” enthusiasts and orthorexic chemophobes have created a $50B+ snake oil industry, largely with the support of the Federal government. And now a solid majority of Nevada’s Democratic state legislators are anti-GM pseudoscience enthusiasts.
Wrong at every turn, and demonstrably so, from the Tea Party, to Occupy, and ultimately the Trump and Sanders movements, the further from the mark they get, the more deeply they dig in their heels.
Now that they’ve caused a global catastrophe of almost unimaginable scale, I imagine that doctors will throw down their stethoscopes and join the fray.
Ignorance is power.
