Suggested Daily Topic

To make things more interesting I'm going add a suggested daily topic. To perk up discussion between Steemians. As always you are free to comment whatever you like to enter. You do not have to follow this suggestion.

The daily topic for today is:

Should Restaurants Do Away With Tipping?

Tipping is supposed to be for good service. However, in America it has become custom even if service isn't very good. It is a bit painful to me to leave 15 - 20% tip for fair to even borderline bad service. So should this custom be done away with and waiters get paid fair wages? Or continue with the status quo?

In case you don't know who I am here is my intro post from way back:

Screw tips, pay them a market wage.

As a food courier a large percentage of my income from work comes from tips, now that is for the delivery service alone. Typically the delivery fee just covers estimated travel expenses and the tip at the end of the night is my actual income.

Now if I screw up I don’t expect a tip, if I am rude or if I take too long I do not expect a tip. Basically agree with you it should be based on service and not something that is expected and I would love for my wages to be increased so I did not have to rely on the tip for my income at the end of the night!

I think your suggestion would be better too :)

Glad you agree 😎

Yes. The simplest thing to do is to add a service charge and show the rate on the menu. This will reduce waiters' income volatility. It will also give waitresses more leverage to deal with sexually harassing customers.

Yes, do away with tipping. They can add a 15 or 20% service charge to the bill....or....just raise the prices and raise the salaries of waiters/waitresses.

At least the number of visitors would provide a loss for the place to eat. A quiet dining area and no food menu prices provide an opportunity for price play.

In some countries, there are now many restaurants forbidding tip-giving to waiters. This is because the tip given when accumulated sometimes even greater than the salary of employees. Of course this causes social jealousy against fellow servants.

It depends on how you look at it, the tips are at the same time it provides the service and I do not have to be obligatory, if you lend me a good service, I decide how much I give you and already., Not that of a percentage that in the end is not given to who provides the service that the waiter is the one who gives the face to give you the attention.

What if you want to give a tip? is there a rule?

Yes, Tipping is supposed to be paid for good service.
There should not be a custom to pay a tip even after a bad service.
it's a customer's will and wishes to tip to services that they received from waiter and he( waiter) satisfies the customer.

I'm going my own way just to vent a little.

Steemit has tons of cool groups that focus on things like technology, photography, nature, etc., but there really isn't a group I know of where everybody gets together and posts about political things. That seems odd to me, given how this platform is practically launched on a libertarian ideology.

This is one of good contest to support newbie on Steemit platform.
And everyone wants to earn some more points to grow on this platform.
My past experience said that there are two types of users on this platform, one of them who are here since past 1-2 years and they know most of things about Steemit rules and regulations.
And they're doing good on the other hand newbies have not much knowledge about Steemit and they are struggling to improve.
And such give away really help them to grow.
Thanks @bunnypuncher

I try :)

Tipping is part of a waiter/waitress' salary at many restaurants. It is bad to have to leave a tip for someone who is rude or even mean. I believe there should be (I hate to sound like a joke) a survey with an advice box to explain what you didn't like about the service. At least this way you would be leaving a "tip."

Here in germany, tipping is absolutely optional, but we still do it in case we either received good service or for the sake of convenience. If you have 17.47€ on your bill, just handing out 20 is much simpler than one of the parties having to look for money.

One thing I would like to mention here is that we do have some kind of "tipping system" if you so will in grocery stores. If you are about to pay, you can say "Round it up, please". Doing so will round up the amount of money you have to pay to an even number, usually just a couple cents. This money will then be used for charitable causes, which is a very cool thing to do if you think about it.

To finish this up, I remember having watched a hilarious YT Video on the topic of tipping, I highly suggest giving it a go.

No-tipping restaurants are better :)

tip is included in the service. but if the tip requires us to pay more, then I do not agree

I think NO ... the tip is offered to the person who gives a good service a good deal to the client ..

In my country Venezuela the tips are not received by the restaurant, they are received by the innkeeper or as you call them, waiters. If the question was related in my country, then I would say that it is not worth getting rid of the tips because those are a great help for the complement of the salary of the innkeeper or waiter. In my country Venezuela the restaurant receives 10% if you consume internally in the restaurant, if you ask for the food to go, do not charge that 10%

As I stand before the Lord at the end of my life, I hope that I will not have the least talent I use, so I can say I use all that You Give me

When I meet successful people, I will ask about 100 questions to find out who the reason for their success. Their answers are always the same: perseverance, hard work and employing good people.

Patience does not mean to be silent when feeling disadvantaged, but able to express his views in a controlled way.

Do not be easy to deduce a person's personality, because there are always unique things in someone who you can find after long interaction.

I personally think that tips should be something you can voluntarily give reward an outstanding service but not something the other person needs to survive.

In a legal manner, a mandatory service charge is not considered a gratuity or gratuity. Often, restaurants add these types of charges to large group bills, or when they host contracted events. In most states, this money belongs to the owner of the restaurant and is subject to sales taxes, although the owner in question can distribute it among the waiters and waiters in order to fulfill their obligations with respect to to the minimum wage. The state of Michigan has a law introduced in 2002 that requires restaurants to establish clearly when mandatory service charges are shared among employees, and when they are retained by the restaurant owner; however, there are no current laws that require restaurants to disclose this circumstance.

Really great thing you are still doing those!

Just saw it on my feed again and thought I will give it a try again!

Thanks for doing this and good luck to all!!!

Always show a friendly face to others, because at that moment, you are not only pleasing to others but also forming the happiness in your own heart.

Tipping is not only to reward the waiter/bartender's good service and attention, It also exists to balance the below minimum wage they get paid!

If the service is good the tip will be good

They should have a regular fixed salary for their work

You are helping the authors. Nice giveaway initiative!!

Great post..

I think restaurants should not do away with tipping but they shouldn't fix the tip %. We should be able to tip any amount we are comfortable with and what the service deserves. And if we can tip directly the server, that would be much better because then, the server would be motivated to do continue or do better in his job.

I think tipping is good, since it motivates the worker to do their best. Also most restaurant waiters and waitress are earning the lowest income where tipping really does make a difference. In my country (Germany), we don't have to tip by law (which is common in some countries). Still most people do the tipping, when they are satisfied with the service, because it is kinda polite to do so.

Congratulation to the winner. I'd like to be a winner

A tip should be earned, not assumed

it hurts when i am not satisfied with food and had to reward waiters with tips. The custom should be overcome. We need to start giving tip only when we wish.

Good work.
I want to paticipate in your contest.

I think tips should be freely choosen. If you are satisfied with the service recived why shouldn’t tip?

Regards form Venezuela

Yes they should do away with tipping, it is a ridiculous system. I am not sure why it even exists, and in some parts of the world it is practically mandatory. As a person who enjoys going out to eat, factoring in a 20% tip makes it too expensive, so we don't go.

I think tipping is not bad if you don't want to give just don't but it's up to you if you have some money to give it will help waiters a lot even just a little bucks from your wallet

This post received upvote from @tipU :) | Voting service | For investors.

Tips should always based on their services.

I think tipping in business or doing business either in the form of restaurant or other business, I tipping it depends on the business concerned.

Hopya to win..

Not in my opinion

I think Tip should be given for good service,
When we are very appreciated to their service we have to appreciate them by Tipping.😊

Tips should be banned. They get salaries for their service.

100% sure tips should be only for good service, I try to keep it like that except when I'm forced to pay those tips... I think as you said, we should remove them and let people pay tips only if they enjoy the service so much that they want to pay a little extra as thanks.

For me it should not be eliminated, it would be great if it were a pot and that at the end of the shift they are distributed in equal parts for all the workers and thus not only the innkeepers are those who have the opportunity.

I only gave tip where the service is good otherwise i never give any amount as tip. Everyone should do the same because it is not compulsory to give tip to them for the bad service.

Tipping should be voluntary and not must. It is the way of our people to feel as if somethings are their right and the entitlement which shouldnt be.

Totally no. The waiter receives a good tip if they pay a good service, otherwise they don't deserve it. And it is up to the customer to give a tip or not, that's why they should have decent wages.

Fair wages always. Waitresses shouldn't be punished because it's rainy and people are staying in and are simply not available to tip.

Tips depends on customers satisfaction about the service, it should not be a must pay. Just pay the waiter their preferable wages.

Tell me about the more rules

The tip should be given only when you appreciate the quality of food, and services. And of course.. When you have enough money

Hello everyone

congrats to the winners

Weight for us as consumers have to pay tips every meal at a restaurant, but without us know it already helps the restaurant's employees to supplement their income other than fixed salary, regardless off all the shortcoming of the restaurant employees.

Increase and pay the workers on the average wage. Tips should be treated as a token of appreciation not part of the cost.

From Australia with love

If service was good, I like gladly to pay a little tip. ✌️ ... what i don’t like is, when the restaurant automatically charges tip on your credit card.

It is deep in the culture, leave it how it is. Tip less if necessary.

I dont like tips

If service is good then i support tip. But it is not much.

Normal wages and if the custermer wants to tip he or she is free to do so.

I feel Tips should be given voluntary and not compulsory and also to a satisfactory service and not the other way around.

Tips are good for poor people

should be freely chosen, whether to give it or not

Good job i want to participate in this contest and i won 5 sbd

Nice post keep it up ....like it and upvoted!

In Australia they just get paid a wage and they don't expect tips at all. If they don't provide good service to the restaurants customers then they will more then likely be fired. I do tip if the service has been exceptional, but that's me.

Unfortunately employers don't pay fair salaries, especially if there is no minimum wage regulation. And in lands with regulation employees usually choose illegal employment to reduce their costs. Either way it ends up reducing the salaries to an amount that the employees cannot live on. Employers use tips as an excuse to further lower the salary. That is essentially why we have tips. Not really to encourage good service but because of the greed of employers.

Thanks for the contest

i like this daily giveaway. its kind of fun and fair for everybody!

So this is how its going to be done

I think it's natural that a restaurant should pay attention to the behavior of its employees, because customers need comfort

Surely, if customers feel uncomfortable in a particular restaurant could result in loss of customers

Slightly exaggerated customer behavior sometimes to restaurant employees, perhaps because he feels rich can look down on others

I think the customer is a bit overboard to the restaurant worker, it may be true if a restaurant employee is paid his wages but please respect the service business of that employee

I think tips should depend on the service that they give. Why would you tip a person if their service sucks ass......

Many customers who choose a comfortable place like me when eating restaurant certainly I choose a cozy restaurant

I do not want to blame the service of certain restaurant employees, before I know the arrogant customer attitude

15-20% seems quite high, though i understand people are working hard, they could raise wages instead, its better in the long run.

The restaurant needs employees who are friendly to visitors because it's one way of finding customers

I have experience so a restaurant employee, how the behavior of the customers I have seen sometimes who like to angry, some good, according to me depending on how the customer rate a restaurant convenience

Not really, the customer of the restaurant is a variety of behavior sometimes there are likes to find fault of others

Maybe I will say 'yes'
But it would be nice if the customers and customers both understand the situation in the restaurant

Tips should be voluntary! :3

I really don't like the idea of tipping. Restaurants should just do away with it.

You are doing very amazing thing by doing this daily contest.

Tiping should give for the good service, but not absolute. Is depend on our own.

Posted using Partiko Android

the service provided is very satisfying, love a little tip for the waiter.

Fair salary, there are people who offer better services, in other things and do not receive.

It should be allowed and it will depend on the client to qualify the type of service, whether he pays it or not

It depends on the service, if it's worth it, payment, if not no!
Regards!

Tips can be kept, but when the person who came to eat is poor but forced to give him tips is bad.i don't like those waters.

I like restautant

If there is a tip for the waiters, there should be a tip for all work where a quality service is offered.

The tip must be voluntary because it is an acknowledgment that is given for the attention they provide when paying for a service, otherwise it must be eliminated, since as you say there are heavy services and this is mandatory, it is not fair to pay for something that you are not comfortable, greetings
