STACH Short Story Contest #21: 199 words, 5 winners, 15SBD prize pool!

I stood there, immersed in deep regrets; with so many "what ifs". What if I had done it when I should.
I was privileged to be amongst the first to hear about steemit in my city. My friend literally begged me to sign up, I brushed it aside with the claim that this was the biggest scam of the decade. Even though it would have taken nothing from me, I just felt it wasn't worth the effort and stress.

Meanwhile I had been scouting for a job, this took me to another city. I got a job but it was more like I was underemployed, the pay was nothing to write home about. After much suffering, I finally got an opportunity, I got a contract but I needed #1.5 million to execute the contract, I searched and searched but I was only able to raise #150k. A friend of mine, told me about steemit again. I signed up to find out that my friends were all millionaires on steemit. I tried reaching out, but time was against me, I lost the contract. If I had joined when they did, it would have been a different story.
