So, for well over a month, anyone paying even somewhat close attention has known that one of the most insidious things about COVID-19 was that a rather huge portion of carriers are asymptomatic or virtually asymptomatic, and that experts feared they might spread the virus to others. Hence the rationale for such extreme prophylactic social distancing even for those without symptoms.
When Georgia's Governor Brian Kemp revealed yesterday that he had just learned this himself, and that he in fact thought it was only recently discovered, a lot of my friends piled on and said this just shows how ignorant politicians are. I instead argued that, no, the Republican Party is especially clueless, and even more so because of the denialism of Trump and his mouthpieces, and that Brian Kemp and Georgia's Republicans are particularly bad, the bottom of the barrel when it comes to basic knowledge relevant to public health.
Well, I guess I was wrong. Unless I am misreading this or it's misreporting, the liberal mayor in the epicenter of America's pandemic problem is as much a fool as Kemp. When it comes to some of the most important matters, many of these politicians are more interchangeable than even I wanted to believe.
