MLB's First Crypto Promotion is Great News for Everyone in the Sector!

in crypto •  6 years ago

Let's face it. Even though I have been on steemit for 28 moons, I am still a novice when it comes to the world of crytpo. That is why I like to leave the crytpo posts to the experts. I prefer to stick to geeky, humorous, educational, family or sports posts (I have also been known to review a movie or two).

But thanks to a promotion being held by the L.A. Dodgers this week, I get to let my sports flag fly while writing about crypto from the perspective of rookie I am.

On Friday September 21st, the Dodgers are giving away the first ever digital bobblehead!!!

I have been to quite a few sporting events in my life. As a result, I have a box full of Bulls oven mitts, White Sox BBQ aprons, Black Hawks ice scrapers, and Bears snuggies. I was even at a White Sox game back in the 1980s where they gave out seat cushions to every fan. Unfortunately after an umpire made one of the worst calls in the history of the game (at least that is what my grandpa was screaming) fans littered the field with 19,999 of those seat cushions (I kept mine).

I'd say that at least 90% of the time, the give-aways have a fatal flaw. Even if the product is cool, there is such a huge corporate logo on it that i never want to actually use it. But these digital bobbleheads are different... and brilliant!

I have no idea who dreamed up this promotion, but whoever it was just did a huge favor for all of us in the crypto world (even us novices).

How?

How is this going to help the crytpo world?

Well let's look at the promotion.

"Get in on the Crypto craze! A first of its kind collectible, pick up a digital bobblehead at Dodger Stadium on September 21 with a Clayton Kershaw, Justin Turner or Kenley Jansen Crypto token for your Ethereum wallet. It's the first Crypto giveaway in Major League Baseball, and believed to be the first such promotion in sports.

While supplies last at guest's point of entry, the first 40,000 ticketed fans in attendance will receive a card with a unique code and directions to a website where a digital bobblehead can be unlocked and added to their Ethereum wallet. The player Crypto token received will be randomly selected, with approximately an equal number of Kershaw, Turner and Jansen codes distributed at the stadium gates."

Wait.

All you get is a stupid card with a code on it? How lame!

Or is it.

Do you know what baseball fans have?

A lot of time on their hands. There is a ton of down time during baseball games. For a true fan, that is part of the charm. For the casual fan, that is the time to buy concessions and hang out.

Do you know what else baseball fans have?

Smart phones.

I would imagine that in-between innings, during a pitching change or a during a 16 pitch at-bat, a fan (who knows almost noting about crytpo) will pull the card out of his pocket and take a look. he will open up a browser on his phone and begin to explore what this silly card is all about.

What will he learn?

  1. He has just recieved a card with instructions on how to "redeem and view the digital bobblehead on MLBCryptoBaseball.com/Dodgers or on the MLB Crypto Baseball app on the app store."

  2. There is something called an "Ethereum wallet". He will also discover that this wallet is "an App where digital Crypto tokens and digital assets built on blockchain can be stored, just like you store concert and game tickets in your Apple Wallet."

  3. "The digital bobbleheads are Crypto tokens, which utilize blockchain technology to prove ownership, verify authenticity and prevent unauthorized duplication. It's the same technology used for cryptocurrencies like bitcoin."

  4. There is a game on MLBCryptoBaseball.com.

  5. There is also a marketplace on MLBCryptoBaseball.com where people can buy, sell and trade Crypto tokens like their brand new bobblehead.

That's edutainment!

Some teachers will do anything to get people to pay attention to their lesson... like give them a cute digital toy.

And that is why this is such a brilliant promotion. This cute little bobblehead will trick up to 40,000 people into learning more about crypto currency. Anything that brings crypto to a mainstream audience is good for the entire sector.

As an added bonus, one of the main groups of spectators are clients who are being wined, dined, and entertained by businesses. These cards are going to end up in the hands of regular fans as well as some heavy hitters in the business world.

From the looks of the website, I think this is only the beginning.

I wish I could be in attendance at this game. Not only would I love to have one of these cool collectibles, I also know that not all 40,000 fans will keep their card. I would imagine there will be quite a few of these laying on the ground. I imagine some savvy crypto veteran could make quite a killing simply by pocketing whatever sticks to his shoe.

Oh and by the way, if you think this promotion is incredibly stupid and no one will care about some ridiculous collectible toy that is not even real, I have two words for you...

Crypto

I been following it and it has some tractions, many are selling for a good amount of money.

I posted about it when it first came out. With a few referrals you could get a free one back then.

That's awesome. I'm sorry I missed that post. I think this is such a cool idea.

Damn, sounds brilliant to me. Little by little we are seeing how Crypto will eventually become mainstream. And take over the World bwhaaaaa ;)

Thanks for sharing hanshotfirst :)

That is fucking brilliant.

Damn it! You summed up my entire post in 4 words.

I was blown away when I saw it. I can't wait for other teams to copy the idea.

Hahsha it's awesome to copy well I don't comment if I'm confused or didn't read, but people try to be too smart here

No I think he completely understood. I was just joking that he summed it up so quickly.

I work booster club at the KC royals at least 3 games a week and I would give my left nut for this to happen there. People would just throw these on the ground and I could be a rich bastard by walking around picking them all up. We are always wheeling and dealing with fans from out of town on merchandise that gets handed out at the gates. I would eat this up. You have no idea.

Absolutely. If the White Sox do this, I am there.

Everyday there seems to be more and more adoption/promotion of crypto in mainstream channels.

For sure. And I believe this one will spread.

It´s something new to add. Some people will like it, some people will hate it.
I think it´s different.

It is novel for sure. At the very least, the people who get them should be talking about it.

It's great to watch this catching on slowly with the mainstream.

Definitely! Thank you so much for bringing this promotion to my attention. I entered "excited puppy mode" as soon as you dropped that link. I really think it is a brilliant idea.

this is really cool. I'm so upset that I can't go friday or I definitely would grab one. I used to work with Justin Turner so maybe I can get my hands on it. I am happy to hear about this promotion. Too bad it's eth though lol

Yeah I'd prefer a steem one. Who knows maybe there will be a steem monster promo somewhere?

You worked with Turner? That's cool. Did you work at a beard growing factory?

I did some shirts for JT last two seasons. Promo's for the MLBPA. He's a cool guy. Did a few other Dodgers over the years. I'm mostly Cleveland Indians, Cavs & Browns though. But did a cool deal with Matt Carpenter and the Cardinals last week. super fun

I would buy one for the novelty. I love the idea of it. It would be cool to be one of the first 40000 fans to get a crypto bobblehead.

I am thinking about it too.

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

He has just recieved a card with instructions on how to "redeem and view the digital bobblehead on MLBCryptoBaseball.
It should be received instead of recieved.

You got me.

This is some awesome news! The more people get to use digital wallets for things they enjoy, the more adoption becomes closer :)

Really very good news my dear

this is a good news!

There are a lot of crypto adoption ways to cater for sports fans and it is brilliant to fish them for using cryptos for their favorite sports @hanshotfirst not only for gambling but for other purposes too.
