Marijauna and the absurdity of it all.
Marijuana prohibition is a joke as is any government agencies attempt to tax it.
I have smoked marijuana my whole life, well 45 years of it anyway and know doctors, lawyers and indian chiefs who have smoked it for years. I have sired 3 marvelously intelligent and productive sons who have smoked marijuana at various times in their life as well.
Ten years ago at the age of 59, I retired and moved to a blockaded country where possession of drugs of any kind including marijuana will get you 25 years in prison. I have not smoked for over six years now and did not go through any withdrawl nor did it affect my ability at the age of 62 to father another child.
Being under the influence while committing a crime is not the same as the drug being the cause for committing the crime.
People who smoke marijuana become docile munchy driven couch potatoes, not mass murdering serial killers or juvenile delinquents. They may be a juvenile delinquent who smokes marijuana but they didn't smoke marijuana and become one.
Placing a tax on sales of marijuana especially one prohibitive to sales will not change the black market availability and like what occurred in Canada many years ago when the government decided to grow marijuana in an old abandoned mine, the product was by far inferior to that which could be grown in a closet by a 12 year old. A 2 foot by 4 foot closet with two lights will produce about 3 pounds of high grade marijuana.
There is no way the government, parents, teachers or police are going to stop anyone from getting marijuana. It is available everywhere and children as young as 10 years old have smoked it and continue to smoke it in plain view of authorities. Personally I have seen children 13 to 15 years old smoking marijuana on the sidewalk in front of the school with crossing guards and police across the street watching for predators not children smoking marijuana.
That is not to say that marijuana is good for you and knowing the effects of it relent to say that it would be difficult to teach a room full of drug influenced children.
