I haven't seen it. I have no desire to see it. But, the fact that people are having a conniption about it makes me feel compelled to see it.
I want to have an educated, reasoned position on this that I can't have without seeing the movie in full context.
Namely, the very people who are trying to demonize the movie are the people who are promoting it.
Philip Gourevitch eloquently pointed out in a debate about free speech that the censors want to elevate bad ideas and give them tremendous platforms so that we can beat them on the public stage.
To an extent, the censors might be right. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. But, Gourevitch is more right. Our outrage is giving attention to things that we should and would ignore.
