DISCUSSION TOPIC:
Compromise Destroys Relationship With God
BIBLE READING:
Revelation 2: 12-17
Qs. 2, 3 See Questions HERE.
DISCUSSION:
The city of Pergamum was probably described as the place, "where Satan dwells" (v. 13) because it boasted of the temple of pagan gods like Zeus, Asclepius and Athene and was also a major Roman center for emperor worship. What can we learn from the church in Pergamum in v. 13?
In spite of their courageous stand however, the church was guilty of compromising their faith. Notice how Satan gained entrance into the church (vs. 14-15 cf 1 Peter 5:8)? The doctrine of Balam and the teaching of the Nicolaitans were both false teachings. In what ways are these kind of teachings manifesting in the church today?
Like the church in Pergamum, we also face the temptation to achieve advancement, acceptance and relevance through ungodly compromises whether in our secular or spiritual lives. But we must know that God hates compromise because it seeks a middle ground between what He demands and what we feel is best for us. Compromise will attract God's judgement unless we repent. What admonition is there for us in vs. 16-17?
What next?
In what areas of your life do you allow compromise to creep in?
Prayer:
Pray Psalm 139:23-24 and ask God to show areas of compromise in your life of which you need to repent.
REMAIN BLESSED!
Even without the reading, the topic summarizes it all. I have been really blessed by today's reading.
