YES YES YES to ALL of this. Just one of my favorite movies ever and for all the reasons this piece articulates. I will add one layer: this movie did what sci-fi rarely does and imagined the future of CULTURE at the micro level. Rather than flying cars, we get commercial jingles as hit songs, Taco Bell as the only restaurant, and the nicey-nice world of Doctor Cocteau.It is "social science fiction."
If you've never seen this movie, especially if you're a libertarian, go find it and watch it this weekend.
