Interesting writing. At first I started reading because I need more "regular" German material to read (trying to learn German) and ended up thinking about my native language and Höflichkeit (or Zuvorkommenheit) and how we treat it. I mentioned the synonym because we call it something like "Bringing" (from somewhere).
A polite person is therefore someone that knows how to bring (something good) with him. There is also another synonym directly meaning Education. So politeness is almost equal to being educated.
You are not the first one who is interested in learning German, I might make some basic courses on german in the future ;).
You can follow @german-trail he posts a lot of positive, light hearted articles and german recommended articles. They should be easier than most of the deeper political stuff me and others write. I'm pretty sure many germans misunderstand my intentions with this text. I dont want to make Steemit an elitist place where we treat each other like fine people. I was talking about being able to express respect in a formal way.
You can even do it better in english than in german. "You, Sir, are very correct in your assessment of the German culture!" Sounds already silly/sarcastic if I translate it with "Sie" and with "you", it is just not possible to keep in the "Sir".
Zuvorkommenheit is never used in Germany, but I understand what it means, the verb zuvorkommen is used more commonly. Everything has its ying and yang. My father would be a perfect example of too much Zuvorkommenheit. And yes, you could say Zuvorkommenheit is an important value of the German society.
