How Can Bread Be Bad for You?

Archeologists have found evidence of grinding stones from Egypt that date back at least 10,000 years. Granted, the first bread was probably more like flatbread or tortillas. Still, civilization has been running on bread for a long time. It's hard to know how bread could be the culprit that causes people to get sick and fat. Well, it's probably not inherently bad. It's just that the typical bread that we buy in the store today is different than the bread that our ancient ancestors relied upon.

It's Not the Flour - It's the Sprouted Grains

Back in the day, people stored grain before they ground it into flour. The grains would start to sprout before they were crushed into flour. They typically cost a bit more and often must be kept in the refrigerator.

That's the whole point. It's cheaper for bread companies to grind flour without allowing the seeds to germinate for multiple reasons. They don't have to store flour so long, and the bread stays preserved longer. That means, it's also cheaper for you to buy. The point is that if you want to eat bread that is better for you and may actually help you lose or maintain your weight, you should consider spending a little more money on healthy, sprouted-grain bread.

These are a few benefits you can enjoy when you buy sprouted-grain flour or bread that is made from sprouted grains:

  • Lower in carbohydrates, fat, and gluten
  • Higher in protein
  • Easier to digest and absorb nutrients from

I've purchased a few different brands of sprouted-grain bread, and I thought they tasted great. They had a nutty, natural flavor that I don't find in most kinds of commercial bread. Most of you probably won't maintain or lose fat if you eat a loaf every day, but I've consumed two to four pieces a day without blowing my diet. If you're starving for bread, try bread or flour from sprouted grains.
