Today's Electronic Repair: iPad Charging Port

in diy •  6 years ago

Some of you may have seen my what not to do to your iPad charger post from last week, well today I got the new charging port in! This guy was super lucky that the glue didn’t make it past the charger!!! The old one came right out! The hardest part of all of this is getting the glass digitizer off without shattering it! Luckily the corners were bent and I was able to heat up the glass and it came right off!!! There are two tiny little screws holding the charging port in and it wiggled right out!!

Thanks for checkin' it out!!!

Hi Jason. that is why there are good guys like you around. I would've probably broken something else whilst trying to repair it. Good follow up from last week.

Thanks! Yeah i'm honestly surprised the digitizer didn't break but I took my time and didn't try to rush it!

It looks like you had better luck than I did... About two years ago, I tried to replace the screen on an Asus Transformer and the bezel melting point was lower than the adhesive. When I got a new bezel, the "touch" function of the replacement screen was really poor.

ohh yeah those are super fun! Those i usually just break all the glass and cut the adhesive with a razorblade! Those asus tablets are super fun to work on!

After teh defective screen, I gave up. I had to special order that directly from China, and I didn't want to wast another $35 on it :-P I miss having a tablet, though.

Yeah once it gets to the point where you could just get a new tablet it's not exactly worth it..

Damn...I was all ready to bitch about how companies surface mount the charging ports to the main board, but Apple actually attached it the smart way. Didn't stop him from messing it up though. Guess I'll go look to the other post to see just how he did that. Looks like he dropped something on it.

Haaaaaa he used super glue on the charging cable!!! It ran down inside the port!! At least it stayed there and didn't go further

It looked like the metal was pulled out though. What, did he try to rip it out with pliers and it didn't work?

yeahhhh he totally tried to pull it out and took the frame with it.... i'm 100% surprised he didn't break the glass doing that
