What do you read?

Who reads anymore?

Without digital media, how many of us still read? From newspapers to magazines, tabloids to pamphlets, even the almighty book, the Information Age is ripe with subjects to be explored, but I hear we’ve drifted entirely away from the print format.

This fact was shared with me, most likely I read it, the average American reads twelve books a year. I wonder what that number is, nearly four months into 2019..

Truth be told, I’ve not read four books yet. That habit needs more reinforcement on my part. So I invite you, cast your vote, jot down a comment, and share your favorite medium.

P.S. A published magazine is on my long-term to-do list...

I read books as a kid (I am 33 now) quite often. In Austria, there was a big series of books targeted to kids (8-12 I would say). Kind of detective stories. Called Knickerbocker Bande

Later I switched to more fantasy and SciFi themed tales. Like the books in the Warcraft world a lot. But also some more "serious" books were on my list.

Today, I am stuck with "good old" authors like Stephen King and Dean Koonz but never got away from orcs and elves completely :D

I have more trouble disconnecting and sitting down to read an actual physical book these days...but I am almost positive that people actually read a lot more these days than 10 or 20 years ago. But that's not physical books and newspapers. Every day people read a ton of articles and short stories and other such things. But they also watch a ton of televised media on Netflix and Hulu and such.

Even though I personally used to really like books...I still can't get myself to sit down and read offline anymore. I have to just admit to myself that I've given up on physical media. And yet...I do read a lot, online. I read news articles and stories...and a hell of a lot of tutorials and non-fiction computer related books. When I'm trying to learn something new related to programming I can read as many as 3 books in a day...or...well...what counts as a day for me if I don't sleep. And computer programming books are no joke.

I think everyone should get an e-reader and read a bit more digital books though. We read way too many crap opinions from idiots online and not enough things that stretch our imagination. It also teaches us concentration. But we shouldn't be stuck on physical books. Now days people read digitally a lot more. But, don't discount the library, because many could use to save a few bucks.
