Its been a while since I mentioned my Earthship, and what better time than now!? I have just returned to Earthship Karuna after two months in the Netherlands. Living off-grid has many benefits, and most importantly is the fact that my home provides me with power, water, and a warm cozy temperature at no cost!

Its fair to say that things are a bit financially tight right now, and I can not afford the normal western living costs. When living on-the-grid there are so many bills that just have to be met, like the power bill, the water bill, the waste collection, and on an on it goes! Thank god I built me an Earthship, because right now I don’t have any bills and therefore have much more time to find new work. I feel very lucky to be able to live without the pressure of bills on my shoulders. This is so important, and is one of the reasons that I created myself and promote a self sufficient lifestyle. We never know when something may happen in life, and there are so many reasons why our circumstances might suddenly and unexpectedly change. It is a sad state of affairs that many if not most people are just one paycheck away from being broke! That is such a vulnerable position to be in, and one that is totally alleviated by living in self sufficient home.

So it is with great gratitude that I sit here now, watered, powered up, online, and very comfortable. Earthships turn the idea of what a home is on its head. We normally have to feed our homes with so much power to make them operate, and they give very little back. They are unable to hold a comfortable temperature without heating or cooling which is very expensive to do conventionally. The earthship however is just perfectly warm even though its raining outside. The earthship does this using its thermal mass to hold a lot of heat in the walls of the home and disperse it through the cooler times of day or night. After 2 days of air-conditioning in airports and planes i already have a cold, and am happy to be breathing natural air, warmed naturally and directly from the raw thermal power of our sun ;-)

So with that it is time to take a nice solar hot shower as we had some sun today. Ultimately of course, I have the Sun to thank for all of this!

Always a little jealous when I see your lovely Earthship popping up. But hey our time will come and once we find the perfect location somewhere on this blue planet I know who to contact for advice. Can't wait to go off-grid, though in Cambodia we do not get a lot of bills, being self-sufficient and in harmony with mother earth must feel so good. Hope you had a great time in the Netherlands.

we are all living in a system that wants to keep us down and we are paying bills to big company for a service that we can get for free. All we have to do is change our energy wasted lifestyle into a sustainable one. I like your Earthship, looks really cool. It is always a better feeling when you are in nature

I have been being confronted with a lot of money based beliefs recently. For me I see this as an opportunity to let go of lack based beliefs and experience abundance in its true form.

Amazing. Earthships are great and you were thinking right to get one. I am glad you have a place to be off griding.

The only Earthships I have visited are in New Mexico and they were beautiful; built with all recycled material.
