My take on education has always been a strange one to many people around my community. There could be some people of a similar mind out there or some with a different perspective that they feel shouldn't be settled with.
I will have to define education first.
Am not the definition type of guy, i like explaining things my own way but here we go.
So what's education?
According to Wikipedia.

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs, and habits. Educational methods include storytelling, discussion, teaching, training, and directed research.

About education according to Wikipedia

But then we have some other definitions extracted not only from theory but also in the real world conduct.

1.the process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.
2.an enlightening experience.

So from the above two definitions having a different way of potraying what really education is, we most times decide to pick either of the two, but not both

But how would you define your education as a person?

I can simply put, "education is growth"
I know one can explain abit more than that, but it always comes down to growth still.
So an educated mind is a mind that is still learning. That's an educated mind.

Most of us could be having a wrong perception about education

We were taught a different thing, and all our lives we live uneducated thinking we are so educated.
There is no conclusive answer in identifying an educated person due to alot of factors, so we tend to follow certain steps and accomplishments to be able to sort out such people.
So we use grades and school accomplishments.
Does that mean that's the best way? No
Is it the simplest way? Probably.
Is it the right way? No
But it's one good way of selecting a higher percentage of educated people, right?
Wrong

You see, deep down in our village, africa ofcourse is there a young man who never went to any school.
He can't speak english, he knows only two languages. He is a calm and collective man, one you would respect for just his composure, determination and kindness. He was the first person to build a so beautiful and decorated house in our village, He rears cattle and it's interesting how he manages to do all those things with out any formal education.
He tried to stand for post in our village, unfortunately he was disqualified because of his academic qualifications missing. Nevertheless he still performs duties like calling out for help in putting road signs to limit accidents, he built a maternal clinic in this one remote area and i can't explain to you how helpful it has been to the community.
Makes me think, this man is educated. What do you think?
Such people remind me of the ancient egyptians, the marvelous people who contributed to the civilation of the entire world.
Drawings and paintings, innovations and creation of tools.

Also the ability to visualize something into existence.
Starting and completing a new task.
Again it makes me think, "eduaction gives the ability to think

So school is one of the best places to aquiring education, because too it depends.

I credit schools for being such a great place of acquiring education.
Unfortunately a time has come when that education leading to unproductive minds.
-I appreciate giving kids the ability to start tasks and finish them

  • Give them an air of competition, yes it can be a good thing sometimes.
-Importantly, the social interactions mean alot in school.
    -Behaviour building.
-Morals and beliefs in children can also be a good thing.
    -Some schools promote talents.

All these are good things, though they stop making sense after a certain level
That level when most of these children need a direction in life.

Books are infinite in number and time is short; therefore the secret of knowledge is to take what is essential. Take that and try to live up to it.

In Africa and most places all over the world, society hierarchies are based on formal education levels

It's one of the available and simpliest ways of acquiring potential leaders.
It has been like this for a long time, and i don't expect it to change with out a proper way forward.

At one point we realize self education makes more sense

If we dare to go an extra mile and make a mark in this world.
Should we take a direction we always wanted to take, create, improve, invent.
Self education has led to the modernity of this world.
Discovery of new things about self and the entire universe.
You may have a formal education which is a good thing, but never stop educating yourself towards a dream that you have.
Any thoughts?
Let me know.

As always thanks for passing.

Thanks @tesaganewton there is a difference between the educated and the learned person but some people don't get it by the way your posts are great

On addition to your submission, I want to point out the fact that the education system in africa has detoriated. It is going backwards instead.
