As the population of the world is gradually increasing over the years, the need for agricultural sector is very essential to our lives as that's where most of our daily food and consumable items come from. This sector is composed of the farmers up to the marketers. The farmers that makes agricultural produce are classified into two; we have the commercial big time farmers who operate on a very large scale and they use the latest technology to operate the farms, and we have the small scale farmers who are families that owns a small farm and they operate on a small scale just to sustain their living.
The small scale farmers due to having no connections to the market usually employ the services of the middle men to help distribute their produce.
We also have the truckers who are those that own a vehicle or means of the transportation of the farm produces and they also face a lot of problems in their due course of action.
Problems Encountered by Small Scale Farmers and The Truckers.
Most of the agricultural products we purchase today are expensive and it's due to the long chain of middlemen that the goods have passed through. In the long run, it's the farmer that gains the less even though he was the one who laboured the most. The middle men sometimes do charge exorbitant fees just to sell a farmer's crop and he gets paid whether he is successful or not. This middle men are those that are in direct contact with the consumers. The farmer have a lack of access to the grocers due to numerous reasons such as
- Having a low produce that cannot meet the grocers needs
- They have a very low marketing capital and ability.
- They have limited technological expertise to reach a very large population due to their limited finance.
- They don't have a direct connection to the truckers
- Inability to keep up with government regulations and food transparency laws.
These reasons made the farmers to become desperate and sell their produce to these Middlemen for a very cheap price and this produce passes through numerous middlemen as they all take their cuts, thereby increasing the prices of the food and the consumer become unaware where their food comes from.
The Truckers on the other hand, as they run the business of transportation, they also experience shortcomings such as inability to market the goods himself due to always being in the road, or having exclusive contracts that prevents them from doing numerous jobs, or having issues with payments and delayed deliveries.
This now posed a question, what can be done about the current situation?
eHarvestHub, the solution
This platform was developed to solve the current issues encountered by the farmers and the truckers. This was in the form of a Hub or a marketplace where farmers, grocers and truckers can all interact and connect with one another. This platform allows the farmers to list their produce, accumulate their produces along with other farmers to meet up a grocers need. It also allows the farmers or grocers to interact directly with the truckers so as to hire their services.
The use of middlemen is no more as they utilize this platform. This platform was made possible with the integration of blockchain technology and Artificial Intelligence to create a eHarvestHub Blockchain Private Network and this ensures that there is a very good transparency in the farming business and with the execution of smart contracts, agreements can be made between the parties.
This platform utilizes the cryptocurrency EHH token, which is used for general transactions to avoid issues encountered by the traditional payment methods and for a very swift and efficient transaction. This EHH token will be used as payment for the services and by users who undergo business on the platform.
In conclusion, the interdiction of this platform will be of a great benefit to the farmers, the truckers, the grocers and the consumers as the platform contributes to the growth of the food market and its adaptations of the blockchain technology into it.*
