When it comes to technology, hardware is king.
We interact with technology on a constant basis, but we never tend to place any technology that we use in a hierarchy of power. The reality is, certain products have far more authority with respect to what other technologies we use simply because of what consumer-side service they intend to deliver.
There’s a very real hierarchy of control when it comes to the technology business. At the very top of this hierarchy is hardware; the hardware provider decides what chips, operating system, and applications you start with. Then come the operating systems as these have less power than the hardware but can decide, to some extent, what applications you start with. Finally, at the bottom are applications as these are at the end of the chain.
In the battle for data, the digital age’s most valuable resource, the hardware providers sustain the highest portion of data as they know each of your interactions both on and off the web. However, the power stems beyond access to data as the hardware providers also have the power to give you your starting set of other technologies.
Notice, that applications are the bottom of the segment and yet most projects that leverage blockchain technology aim to develop applications—they have minimal power.
This is one of the most fundamental causes of why blockchain technology has such limited reach; the projects pursuing its utility have limited pull as they remain on the bottom end of the technological hierarchy.
Focusing on Hardware
ICOs are making it possible for the mass development of blockchain technology and its utility at a massive pace. However, the key challenge of penetrating the masses is a tough hurdle that still hasn’t been tackled.
Projects aiming to utilize blockchain technology remain to be on the software level; the key to taking blockchain forward is targeting the most powerful aspect of the technology hierarchy: hardware.
While a very few projects have opted to pursue hardware that integrates blockchain technology, they are about to face an impeccable challenge as they intend to target direct-end consumer products like phones. A new project, Skynet, is taking a more feasible approach.
Breaking the Barrier
Skynet is a multi-level development that integrates the development of multiple layers of technologies including its own protocol and blockchain. However, the distinct difference between Skynet’s long-term approach to building a product that can scale throughout the mass market is that this project also intends to develop its own chip.
Skynet is creating the first-ever blockchain chip. The consumer-side benefits of a blockchain chip are quite clear as it provides hardware that can benefit from the blockchain’s most valuable provisions; the project itself asserts its focus on creating blockchain hardware that cannot be hacked.
The chip is so fundamental to Skynet because it makes this project a blockchain semi-conductor venture. Thus, the chips can be deployed to the IoT devices across the world and provide seamless link to the Skynet Open Network. The chip enables a number of features and one of the most important aspects is that it will allow devices to natively have encrypted cryptocurrency wallets, enabling immediate ability among the masses to try cryptocurrencies. Directly placing easy access to this market is one of the easiest ways to not only spark mass market interest, but also participation.
Additionally, these chips will make IoT devices ready for the blockchain era. So, not only will people have immediate access to cryptocurrency storage, but they will also have the ability to full interact with blockchain-powered developments. Skynet Core will enable the devices to sign transactions through automated mechanisms that will allow utility of blockchain technology easy for the end-user. Moreover, in an effort to encompass the blockchain movement’s goal of securing people’s assets and data, the chips will maintain secure storage.
The chips provide access to the blockchain with the ease and convenience people have become adjusted to.
Skynet is targeting the highest level of the technology hierarchy to ensure its blockchain, protocol, and utility application break into the mass market.
Rather than simply develop software, the project involves the development of chips that can seamlessly connect IoT devices with the Skynet Open Network.

I had a computer built close to 20 years ago. Maybe should do that again. The reason for switching was because laptops had more power and storage.
@hatu Any thoughts having one built again with the chip installed.

Oh you won't have to independently pursue the PC development with the chip. The goal is to have this chip desirable enough for established manufacturers.

@hatu sir, it is good to see a project like Skynet is targetting on most left behind but the most important layer of hierarchy ie hardware itself, it will definitely increase blockchain reach.
