Ethereum is a blockchain app platform conceived circa 2014 and launched 2015. Ethereum uses Gas as the transaction fee paid by decentralized applications to execute operations.
On November 28, 2017, the hugely successful CryptoKitties Official game launched and it's estimated to be responsible for nearly 15% of all transactions processed on the Eth blockchain for the past 1,500 or so blocks.

All this making and trading kitties plus trading platforms (like Ethdelta and Ethfinex) buying, selling, and transferring cryptocurrency requires Gas and Vwala Ethereum has network congestion.

All this congestion has lead Bittrex to temporarily suspend creating new Eth deposit addresses.
