The internet has really changed (or at least the way people use it has). I remember when I was a kid back in the early-to-mid 2000s the internet was a much more anonymous place. Not that many people used their real names. There weren't any huge social media sites yet. Nowadays people use the internet a lot more and they are much more likely to share personal information on it. The governments of the world like to take advantage of stuff like this.
