THE INFLUENCE OF EVERY LUNAR PHASE IN VEGETABLE CULTIVATION

Hello friends of the farm in this opportunity I will talk about the influence of the moon in the crop in each of its phases. In other times farmers observed that the phases of the moon influence the production of crops, stimulating rapid germination or delaying it, especially in organic farming where plants grow naturally without the use of chemical fertilizers. It is not very clear if it is because of the lunar light, how they assure some or by the gravity of the moon on earth, as others claim, it has not been scientifically proven and the truth is that there is no clear information about it. But what is clear is that the phases of the moon influence the sap of the plants, as well as the tides, which is why a lunar calendar of sowing and harvesting has been created that favors our crops.
What interests us the most is knowing that moons are more convenient in the crops of vegetables, cereals and fruit trees as well as in the pruning and picking of the garden.

Biodynamic agriculture tries to recover this ancient connection between the energies of heaven and earth. For this we can find in the market lunar biodynamic calendars that will guide us on the best moments for the realization of the various tasks of the garden, depending on the lunar phases, planetary aspects, etc.

THE INFLUENCE OF EACH LUNAR PHASE IN VEGETABLE CULTURE IS THE FOLLOWING:

SOURCE

FOURTH GROWING
The availability of lunar light is increasing and the plants have a balanced growth, in which the growth of foliage and root is favored.
In this period within the soil there are large movements of water that affect its availability to the roots. As there is greater availability of water in the soil, the seeds will have the opportunity to absorb water more quickly and germinate in the foreseen time, as long as the climatic and soil conditions are favorable.
That is the reason why the seeds of fast germination (vegetables) that are planted two or three days before or at the beginning of this phase germinate faster and more homogeneously than those that are sown in other periods.

SOURCE

FULL MOON
In this phase the lunar light continues to increase and there is little root growth, but much foliage growth.
The plants have a greater amount and internal movement of water and sap. In the case of propagation through stakes and cuttings (pieces of stem) that are used for vegetative propagation, it is not convenient to cut them in this phase, since there is a lot of water inside them, the hormones that promote rooting (auxins) will be very diluted and will not help to stimulate the emission of roots. In addition, the water inside the stakes will tend to come out, causing rapid dehydration.
When the transplant is made in this period the plants tend to grow fast and produce a lot of foliage.

SOURCE

FOURTH MENGUANTE
In this phase the intensity of the lunar rays begin to decrease.
This is a good period for the transplant and has seen a rapid and vigorous growth of roots. When there is little light, the growth of the foliage is slow, which is why the plant can use a large part of its energy in the growth of its root system. With its vigorous and well formed root, the plant can obtain sufficient nutrients and water for a successful growth.

SOURCE

NEW MOON
In this phase the intensity of the lunar rays continue to decrease to lower levels.
In this phase a slow growth of the root system and the foliage has been observed. Apparently this is a period of little or very little growth, such as resting, where plants can easily adapt to the environment without suffering any damage.
Many farmers prefer to perform their agricultural work in this period of rest, because they believe that plants can adapt more easily to changes and prepare for the next period (New Moon to growing quarter) in which balanced growth of plants is expected .

FORAGE COLLECTION
-If we harvest in green for immediate cattle feed, it is best to cut it in full moon, since in this phase the plants are at their maximum nutritional power.
-The hay harvested in full moon or quarter waning, will have a more intense green color.

TALLA DE ARBOLS
-If you want to have healthy and resistant wood for years, you will have to cut the deciduous trees in full moon or quarter waning.
-The wood for the fire will have to be cut in a crescent, since it is when it is drier. The firewood cut in the new moon burns badly.
-The evergreens are advised to cut them in new moon or quarter waning.
-The canes must be cut in full moon or quarter waning, to avoid that they break easily and are wrinkled.

INJERTOS
-It is preferable to make them always in ascending moon in constellation of fire or air. The crown graft is done at the end of winter when the sap begins to rise and the first buds appear. The escutcheon graft is practiced in the month of August when the sap rises in the rising moon having watered about 15 days before the graft carriers in order to push the sap. Cut the escutcheon with the bark and a little bit of wood so that the yolk does not come out.
-Rosales grafts are made of escudete and can be practiced every month of the year in ascending moon and grafted as low as possible to the boundary between the white part and the green part in order to avoid the formation of pacifiers

SCORES
-It is advisable to cut them on the last day of the rising moon and put them on the ground on the first day of the descending moon. The cuttings are preferably cut in autumn, between 10 and 15 cm on the wood of the year on the last day of the ascending moon.

MANURE
-Always be removed in full moon or quarter waning to get it with a buttery texture, crumbled, moist and even with a pleasant smell. If it is stirred in a new moon or in a crescent moon, we get the opposite effect.

AGRICULTURE, HORTICULTURE AND GARDENING
-The works of the field, such as tilling, planting, transplanting, fertilizing, etc., are usually more effective if we perform them in descentende moon. When we need to remove the soil of the sandy type with either plow, mill or cultivators or a simple hoe, it will be preferable to match the descending moon with the crescent moon. On the other hand if the earth is of the clayey type it will be preferable to match the descending moon with the waning moon.
-Sowing and planting: in addition to the appropriate moons we must bear in mind that it is preferable to plant in the morning and plant in the afternoon. So that we understand well the concepts of planting and planting, we will say that for example potatoes, radishes, carrots, wheat, barley, etc., are sown while fruit trees, various plants, etc. they are planted
-When we wish to fertilize the earth, we will preferably do it in a crescent moon and, if possible, in a descending moon and in the earth, avoiding signs of fire. If we add natural algae and phosphates, we will do so in a crescent moon. The mineral fertilizers better to make them in waning moon and in the mornings. If we add cow dung we will do it in a waning moon.
-The stakes will be cut preferably in new moon so that they last longer by nailing them to the ground, previously burning the tip.

CROPS
-Many of the crops would be much better if we consider the moon and other star signs. In a general way we can say for example that better results are achieved by harvesting in the rising moon the vegetables that grow above the ground and in the descending moon for those that grow under the earth, such as roots, potatoes, sweet potatoes, radishes, turnips, etc., always avoiding bad weather.
-With respect to the moment, it should be noted that the first hour of the day is the most recommended in almost all crops.

WHAT ARE THE CROPS THAT CAN BE CARRIED OUT BY THE LUNAR PHASE
-For corn and sunflower preferably sown in waning moon and if possible ascending and harvesting in ascending moon.
-For rapeseed to sow if possible in waning and rising moon and harvest in ascending and waning moon.
-For the rice and the soybeans to sow in a crescent moon and, if possible, in a descending moon, harvesting in a waning moon and making it possible to ascend.
-For the millet plant in a crescent moon and make possible upward harvesting in the same moons
-Fruits and vegetables that usually do not conserve as well will spoil less if they are not harvested in water signs and constellations.
-The fruits harvested in the rising moon is more juicy and rich in energy and if collected in the rising moon the maturation process will accelerate more.
-Fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, apricots, plums, cherries or peaches are preferable to collect them in crescents and ascending
-The pumpkins and courgettes is preferable to collect them in crescent moon, especially if we want to keep them natural in the pantry for winter
-The root plants are preferable to collect them in a waning moon except for the garlic, onions and escalons that prefer the crescent moon.
-The potatoes must be grilled in a waning moon.
-The lettuce sow in a waning moon in order to glean quickly and in autumn we can sow them in a crescent moon.
-The grass will cut better in a waning moon if we want it not to grow very fast and in a crescent moon if we wish otherwise.
