Chen Style TaiChi (video with introduction)

in fitness •  8 years ago

This is not the Tai Chi they teach at your grandmother's senior center on Wednesday mornings.

The main style of Tai Chi taught in the US is the one approved as a form of exercise by the People's Republic of China (PRC). It has had almost all of the self-defense movements reduced or excluded and is purported to be useful for health and fitness, which is why the PRC allowed it. Chen Style is obviously and expressly a fighting style, and as such was almost extinguished during the Cultural Revolution. Practitioners held their exercises in hiding until it was safer to teach more openly.

hom!
lovely music too!

Glad you liked it! I'm hoping it encourages use of the #taichi tag.

great idea good to know fell like I was doing it resteeming!

Thanks!

I love Chen style XD Have also done Wu style for a little bit at my old school then they switched (can't remember which way they switched), the latter is way better for anyone with joint/mobility issues.

Yes, I'm having to blend some things together to make it fit my needs. I'm not a mystic, so I just use what works and cut or change things as I like.

You can add a #cn tag.

What is that?

It's the thingi code for China.

Thanks

Thank you for taking me completely out of my "normal realms." ;) 😄😇😄

@creatr

You're welcome. I thought it was a beautiful performance and worth sharing.

Yes! It was indeed beautiful! I was once again amazed at the fluid motion inherently possible within the brilliant design of the human body.
