Jicama (HEE-kah-ma) - aka yam bean, Mexican turnip, or Mexican potato - is an edible root vegetable native to Mexico. Spaniards spread its cultivation from Mexico to the Philippines and from there it went to China and other parts of Southeast Asia, Cambodia included.

It's cheap, yum, and easy to cook with. The root has a yellow and papery outer skin and the inside has a crisp texture that resembles a raw potato or pear. The flavor is sweet and starchy, reminiscent of some apples or raw green beans. Though it is often eaten raw in salads, It also often ends up in soups and stir-fried dishes.

Hehe.. sure you can!

The salad looks pretty great, the only problem is finding some jícama :D

A lot of stores across Europe are starting to sell it too. If not you can substitute it with apple. It has a similar taste and texture. Thanks for stopping by!

Nice recipe, I havent ever even seen the jícama before, Could you recommend a sub for this? Would regular turnip work do you think? (just saw the apple suggestion! Duh, thanks)

Hey, I just tag you in my post for a potential meet up! :)

Ohh that sounds cool. I'll take a look at it in in just a sec.

Ohhhh! It looks so tasty! Here also in Mauritius they put chili paste in salad , i like salad but this one looks different.

Do you have jicama in Mauritius? Thanks for stopping by!

Those are all great ingredients! The grapefruit, sunflower seeds, and chives would go great together! I would use Jerusalem artichokes because the Jicama doesn't grow here. Well, neither does the grapefruit, but I don't have an alternative for that, lol. I'd order your salad at a restaurant! :D

Jerusalem artichokes will only make it better hehe. I'll make you one... you just have to fly over hehe ;)
