Hour One is Key -- 2 healthy tips
Most people start out the New Year on a mission. A mission to get in shape, get fit, get buff, get absolutely shredded. 90 percent of us will hit the gym and go to our local Whole Foods, for about 2, maybe 3 weeks and then we revert. The life that we were living before the New Year creeps back. We crush our goals before they even have time to simmer.
To be fair to these people, what they set out to achieve is highly difficult. Achieving a body that you are proud of is no easy task. We are human, and we are rarely happy with what we have. Improvement is a constant. With these great expectations, pressure mounts, then we crack. It's not like we had anything riding on it, so screw it.
Let's take an easier approach. As a first step towards good health and the body you always wanted, make the first hour of the day count.
We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day -- it repairs your muscles after sleep, and gives you the surge for a huge day of work and exercise. If your goal is to get in shape, yet your breakfast consists solely of Captain Crunch and a bagel with fake butter, then what are you doing? So try this:
The Power Surge Breakfast
2-3 eggs (omellete or scrambled)
add handful of dark greens (baby spinach, kale)
salt, pepper, seasoning of choice
1 serving greek yogurt
add 1-2 spoonful of almond butter (peanut, sunflower, etc.)
add 1 spoon of jelly or preserve
2 glasses of water with lemon, (coffee or juice can be added).
This is a healthy way for anyone to start their day off. You have plenty of protein with the eggs, greek yogurt, and nut butter. You get enough carbs and sugar boost with the jelly or jam. If you use almond butter, its a great way to incorporate healthy fat, giving you slow burning energy throughout the day. If your goal is gain more weight and build muscle, please add more to the meal. For those wanting to slim down, the high protein meal will keep you satisfied, snacking less throughout the day.
Do an exercise, any exercise.
I like to hammer out some push-ups right after waking up. It's a great way to get the blood flowing before you start the day. You can do whatever puts you in the best mindset. Running, planks, pushups, pull-ups, lunges, or a full body workout at the gym. No matter your goals, everyone should do some type of exercise in their first hour of the day. Once you complete even just 10 minutes of exercise, you will be in a great state of mind starting the day. As you create a habit out of your morning exercise, you may notice it become meditative. You are putting your body in a focused state, right after you've just slept and dreamt for hours.
With these two things taken care of you are primed for a great day, you replenish with a Power Surge Breakfast, and then you can get back to changing the world and being the most influential person in the history of humanity. Or just get that promotion, and look sexy doing it.
You got this.
