Do people seriously eat this garbage?

I had no idea about chemicals in the bread! Fortunately, I'm in Europe and only go occasionally, so should be ok ;)
Tell you what, I'm seeing more and more Subway shops opening in Madrid, so there does seem to be a growth spurt...

Nice post @doitvoluntarily

thx for stopping by marius! :)

Food chains will never go away and specially fast food chains, and American loves fast food, so i think Subway will be here for a very long time @doitvolunatarily

Sometimes bad publicity can work in your favor as free advertising. sometimes it backfires. The youth often eat at subway and they may not care either way. People often have a short term memory. Time will tell yes. However I doubt if it has a huge impact. McDonalds will have more ill effect over bad publicity than Subway I believe. Thanks for sharing, - Troy

I must admit I was fooled to believe that Subway was "good" fast food. But once I found the poison they put in their food, I stopped eating that garbage. We, consumers have the power, let's tell these big corporations to stop putting poison in our food. Vote with your money!

'make yoga mats, as well as shoe rubber'
Wow this is really distressing.
I didn't realise how bad Subway was and all the food scandals they had.
Thanks for informing me @doitvoluntarily

I wonder if Yoga Instructors are angry, lol :D

Their selling point was "low fat" as they attempted to steal market share from the burger crap.. Looks Like it's all poison. Just pick the one you like better. cholesterol and calories through the roof...versus.... cardboard carbs saturated in chemicals.

If you want to eat well and don't want to make it yourself from scratch, it's likely better to eat local, and not from a national chain. Doesn't matter how haute or lowly their image is. To maintain a startlingly consistent flavor profile across a large geographic area you inevitably have to do "ruin" the food in some way. Half their ingredients are going to be bulk manufactured and frozen, and the other half bulk manufactured and covered in preservatives to prevent spoilage. And who knows what else they did to facilitate making it in large batches or what they did later to cut costs. Of course, local joints aren't likely to be completely healthy either.

I don't think that's the reason Subway is concerned with its image.

I'm pretty sure it has more to do with their former spokesperson, and whatever crime he was accused of.

But upon doing research, it turns out that their former spokesperson had never actually done anything. He was sentenced for thought-crime, and had never actually committed any wrongful act.

If he had, I would understand, but according to some basic research, he did nothing that would leave a victim.

edit:
Or maybe he did. Research is unclear. Either way, such a thing is a grave issue, and most certainly not favorable for Subway's image.

guess we can add that to the list as well lol
many chains are doing similar upgrades to their venues too, taco bell cantina anyone? lol 😆

Nice piece..

If eating a Subway sandwich means not buying new shoes or yoga mats I'll take that any day!

Jokes apart, it is a big dent in reputation for Subway. The reason being that it used to be one food brand that has been capitalizing on its reputation for creating sandwiches out of freshly baked breads and ingredients, including vegetables. Subway became popular due to its fresh food and veggie ingredients and salads.

But then like you mentioned people love their fast foods, and it is only a matter of time that this scandal also fades away.

On the other hand alternative diets are gaining in popularity. However, I don't think people will give up fast food altogether.

For example, I am on a planned diet throughout the week except Sunday when I have a meal full of fast food.

Nicely written article! Following you for more interesting content.

Thats very bad to hear. Be alert everyone. Thanks for the informative post

Personally I don't even class this rubbish as food. Thanks for sharing.

I watched an interesting video of Milton Friedman yesterday that addresses this very issue, but couched in terms of the Ford Pinto.

I think this Subway story demonstrates that the system still works.

If the ingredient is not illegal to add in the markets where they did that, then you can't condemn SubWay for trying to maximize their profits by adding something that either extends the shelf life of their bread or makes it more palatable for the consumer in that market.

At 5:38 in the video:

The real fundamental principle is that people individually should be free to decide how much they're willing to pay for reducing the chances of their death. Now people mostly aren't willing to pay very much.

what seriously

Yeah, it's crazy I ate subway regularly when I was in my twenties so got the joy of ingesting all that crap. Smh.

You're not eating fast food. It's Subway! Also, keep your kids far, far away.

Horrible! Wherever I look, it's scary to buy any products! A year ago I bought a children's yogurt and accidentally looked at the composition. There were no strawberries in the composition. A dye of red color was made from beetles. Scary. More we do not buy yogurts and always read the composition. Thanks for the story.

@doitvoluntarily excelente post y necesario para abrir los ojos, gracias.

I think it will work. The old wine served in the new glass. People's emotions will be ward off when they do not attach themselves with the old logo and ambience.
