Food Adventures 12- Streetfood in Amsterdam

In the center of Amsterdam there is a food joint of some kind in literally every corner. Not all of them are great, but at least you can put something in your stomach.

Let’s see what I tasted during my recent visit to Amsterdam.

First stop an Arab restaurant. Typically, Arab restaurants are relatively cheap and portions are big. Quality is hit or miss. From this one I got a Kebab which was sliced pork meat , veggies and pita bread. Mediocre dish, nothing more to say. Needless to say that I have eaten better Kebabs.

I am big on social proof. When you see a lot of people queuing it must be good right. Well not always. Sign on the shop says “voted no1”. Don’t know who voted for this one. I wouldn’t ... Or maybe all the other fries shops suck. Who knows… Anyway , freshly made fries, big portion, but not much flavor. Next …

Next one was great. Half butcher shop, half food store, you could buy fresh meat or you could choose to have a sandwich from the selection of roasted meats they had prepared. I got some pork belly with honey mustard in a baguette and it was absolutely delicious .

I saw this guy in a Youtube video. Didn’t searched him but in one of walks he appeared right in front of my eyes. Ok, it wasn’t that difficult because his location is t the Royal Palace square. He sells raw fish. I had high expectations from the video and he delivered. Great fish. Fresh and tasty. Not very “fishy” in flavor, but tender and juicy. It went so well with some chopped white onion. You had the choice to have pickles but I hate them so I passed. If you pass in front of him and like fish, give it a try.

This is a cheese and pastry shop in Red Light District. A friend I met in Amsterdam warned me that these are not so fresh, but I didn’t listen. He was right. There were a couple of days old, but at least the one I got was delicious and quite big ( and expensive ).

And last, I had to leave on a sweet note. I found this one in the airport and almost like a robot I got one. It was chocoholicaly great and totally satisfied my cravings. Hail to Tonny !!!

Generally, I like fish. I found it awesome. It was fresh and not that fishy in taste.
And it was cheap compared to all the other snacks I had.

As for my chocolate I am purist. Just plain ol milk chocolate. Not fruits , no nuts , no nothing.
Just me and my brain cells exploding when I have the chocolate. :)

Awesome. :)

My friend, I am grateful to you for allowing us to try different dishes with you! And milk chocolate is also my favorite treat!

Great minds think alike :)

agree! better arab restaurant is closed only, because the quality is not good,

I would disagree . There are many great Arab restaurants and the same goes for all countries.
If it is good or bad doesn't depend on the ethnicity but on the person that runs it.

Just to make things clear.

Those all look quite interesting. Thanks for the great descriptions. Did you happen to see any vegan (not vegetarian) dishes while you were there?

To be honest, I didn't pay any attention, but I would guess that some of the Asian booths would serve vegan meals.

Cool beans, thanks. :-)
