LAMB SHANK on the Weber... NOMNESS!!!!!

We often braai on Sundays and if we don't do a traditional braai,
we will generally do a roast on the weber...
Yesterday was no exception,
other than the fact that
I felt like doing something a little bit different...

And so it was...

LAMB SHANK ON THE WEBER

......

Lamb shank has GOT to be
one of the tastiest dishes on the planet,
and is so utterly simple too...

Ok, so - first things first...
LIGHT THE WEBER!
YAY!

While the fire was busy getting itself ready,
I rubbed the shank in a little olive oil, salt and pepper
and then placed it in the roasting dish
and then on the weber to braise it...

Once finished with the braising,
I removed the roasting pan from the coals
and headed back into the kitchen to add the rest of the goodies,
which consisted of the following:

6 small onions
2 carrots roughly chopped
2 celery sticks roughly chopped
750ml chicken stock (I find the beef too rich)
1 can of diced tomatoes
3 - 4 sprigs of fresh lemon thyme
3 - 4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
one teaspoon of sugar
1/2 cup of red wine

Pretty much throw them all into the roasting pan
and bobs your uncle!

Leave the roasting pan uncovered,
but put the weber lid back on
and cook for 3.5hrs

and then... Bon Appétit
I know this should traditionally be served with mashed potato,
but I no longer eat potatoes... so rice it was :)

The meat was literally fall off the bone tender
as any good shank should be!

And needless to say,
the tummies were all very happy after!

If you try it -
let me know how it turns out! :)

......

Until next time...

Much Love from Cape Town, South Africa xxx

Tasty meal you have got displayed. Wish it was possible to get all the ingredients and try the recipe over here.

Thanks :) Appreciate the positive feedback.... I am sure you could improvise :)

It looks so good, wants to taste it ..

Wao! Am salivating already. I love the outcome after the whole processes. I will surely try this out.
Thanks for the guidelines....

Pleasure Hon :) Hope you enjoy it as much as we did :)

This looks yummy 😋 Jaynie, wish I could have a taste, you know what save me a plate on my way to SA 😂

hahaha!!! Sorry @admiralsp - it was too tasty.... had to eat it all :)

Oh my soul... that looks good!

Haven't done lamb shank in ages... and you're right... It's such a delicious treat. Gonna fix that and make a plan soon :-) Thanks for the inspiration!

hahaha My pleasure @braaiboy :)

Always nice to cross paths with fellow South Africans :) Where in SA are you?

I'm from SnorCity (aka Pretoria)... I do get to make my way down to CPT occasionally... maybe our paths will cross for real one day.

LOL @ "SnorCity" - and yeah!!! that would be cool!!! Are you braaiboy as in braaiboy.co.za? or not connected?

Indeed... the same one... you heard of me? I hope that's a good thing? :P

hahahaha!!! @braaiboy - Yes, we corresponded several years ago on twitter, when I was still editor of Inspire Virtual Mag - We were going to do a feature on you but then you just ignored all my contact...

How rude! lol KIDDING!!! ;)

Not sure what happened in the end actually lol, but it never materialised.

Well, welcome to Steemit - no doubt you will be very successful here too... PLENTY of people that need to be educated on our SA culture ;)

Lies... All Lies! #JK Sorry about that... My Bad!

It's very plausible actually... my admin was terrible (ok, it still is a little, but I'm a lot better now)... I can totally believe that if you were waiting for me to write an article or send pics, that I may have missed a deadline :-(

Like I said, I have gotten better over the years.

Re SA Culture: Yeah... Need to spread the word that it's called a BRAAI and not a BBQ... OK, we have a few other unique characteristics too, but we need to start somewhere, right?

LOL! @braaiboy - no stress man! haha

As for the rest, yes... I think starting with the BRAAI is the best Idea... It is laughable how many people have seen pics of our braais that I have shared here on Steemit (at flame stage) and have said things like "how can you cook your food on that, its going to set it on fire!

We need to help these people! hehehe :)

Seriously I'm salivering it

hahaha! Apologies for that ;)

This looks so yummy for the tummy!!! Are you South African that you use the word braai?? :)

Also making little cuts in the lamb while brasing and putting cloves of garlic in there could also give some extra spunk even :) remove them later ofcourse

Bbq is an art seriously, under appreciated!

hahaha yes @karinxxl I am South African :) Capetonian born and bred :)

Yes, I would normally do that with the garlic and rosemary when doing a lamb roast and it most certainly does make it very tasty :)

That looks sooo tasty :) Sunday roasts at your place must really rock, hehe.

hehehe thanks @mikesthoughts! I would like to believe so too.... hahaha :) Especially when all the trimmings are involved :)

Copycat. This is how I intend to Nutritional Wednesdays from now onwards. Just kidding. 🍌🍌🍪🍪🍪🍪. Have a nice day.

hahaha I nearly fell over @amarbir lol

Lol

YUMMY!! I haven't had lamb in a while, it's so expensive here!

It is CRAZY expensive here too Kimmie, but it was TOTALLY worth it hehehe :)

So, actually you were doing a potjie? We invested in a potjie and yoh! It does great stews. Winter Sunday Suppers will definitely have a smoky flavour, and lamb shank is on the list. BTW we have a new butcher in town. Great meat. Better prices. Next timeyounare out this way, plan to stock up! xxx

hahahaha well, yes kind of I suppose, except without the "layers" lol :)

Nic dish.

wow, so yummy and tasty, also delicious dish,
thanks for sharing @janynie.

I am actually salivating right now.. Nice recipe

Absolutely enticing.

No doubt.

The food looks great. You are really successful in cooking. My favorite foods. (Rice and meat). I'm hungry when I see pictures. :)
