Food Wastage : A harsh reality in today's world! Spread the word, a simple action from YOU counts a lot!

Greetings world of Steemians!

It's crazy how time is flying!!! A month has nearly passed since I last wrote a post!

I really need to do better and post more often! I just love this community and I really miss the days where I was posting daily, holding food contests + participating in various ones, present on steem.chat, discord, curating daily, and engaging with all of you beautiful people out there!

While looking in some old folders, i fell on these photos and wanted to write a little bit on them actually!

For those who don't know me yet, the new Steemians especially; I have been working in the food industry the last 18 years and present here on Steemit for 2 years now!

I've been executive chef of world known hotels and resorts in Mauritius as well as in couple of hotels overseas where i held managerial position in the kitchens!

Ok let's come back to the post now...

It is really something very bad but which is unfortunately keeping on happening everywhere in the food industry world!

FOOD WASTAGE

In both of the last two hotels i've worked in as Executive Chef, ## both world renowned 5 stars hotels, wasting food seemed to be something normal and no one seemed to care or did something to prevent or look out for solutions...

The below are some pics I took during my first day of appointment as Executive Chef in both of the hotels, different years in between of course...

This is what I saw... food being thrown away after breakfast service...

Check it out guys...you'll be shocked!

Butter, olives tapenade ..on wait this is from only 1-2 guests tables...we had 100's of tables daily for breakfast service...

Cooked prawns, tomato, onion, fried eggs...

Ham, beef...

Lettuces...simply a crime for me!

There were a lot more of good food that were going into the waste bin after each and every food service...

All these desserts are simply thrown away after the dinner buffet...

Seeing these on my first day of work(in both hotels), really shocked the hell out of me!
And during my tenure as Executive Chef, controlling food wastage became priority number one on day one itself...

I had to educate people on this subject on a daily basis! It was like going back to school!

Despite how many controls were being put in place, still there was quite a big amount of food going in the bins everyday and night...

This made me think about all the 150+ hotels in my country...and what about the hundred's of thousands of hotels/restaurants, supermarkets, markets, food markets in the world???

For one second just imagine the bulk of good food going to waste...it is just phenomenal guys! It's a shame that nothing big is being done to better use these foods before they go to waste.

I've seen couple of ngos doing recycling in some countries...but that's not enough!

On the other hand...people are dying of hunger in so many places in the world!

I truly believe that educating people, from our home itself and make them spread the word to friends and family will help a lot!

What do you guys think about this world problem?
How can we better use these foods?
Can something be set up on Steemit to tackle a part of this problem!?...I am ready to help and join force btw...
