Oven Roasted Lime and Thyme Whole Chicken (Delightful Aroma and Taste Recipe)

in food •  7 years ago  (edited)

What cooking means for you? For me cooking is mostly about combining taste, smell and visual presentation. Definitely I have my own preferences, habits and such that influence what I’m cooking and in what way I’m doing it.

This time I wanted some really original taste. I've heard recently that fresh thyme combined with lemons or limes give meat very original aroma and taste, so I just wanted to try that concept cooking whole chicken. I must tell you it was absolutely delightful.

Just do it!

Ingredients

  • whole chicken (better organic one);
  • 1-2 lemons or limes (preferred);
  • 5-7 garlic cloves sliced;
  • 2 fresh sprigs of thyme torn (may add a little rosemary and sage);
  • garlic powder;
  • salt and pepper(s).

Instructions

Season chicken generously with pepper, salt and garlic powder. Slice limes (lemons) and garlic. Tear and cut thyme sprigs. Put limes, garlic and thyme into the chicken. After that put chicken into the oven preheated to 180°C. The bird must be done in 1-1/2 hours (40 minutes for each kilo approx.)

you're welcome :D

It looks delicious 😋 let me tell you I'm learning to cook now and I say learning because i haven't made many things . I used to be scared of making chicken and getting the family sick but of course now I can tell when it's done. I thought many times of making a chicken but when I go to store the one they have already made is cheaper than buying a whole chicken that is raw. Is there a big difference?

There is nothing to be scared about, unless chicken is not fresh. Just make the heat lower and cook longer if you uncertain if it's done. You may want to use gadgets to check the temperature inside meat additionally.
Yes, there is a huge difference between already cooked chicken from the store and homemade.
First, and the most important, you never know how fresh it was before marinated and cooked.
Second, you never know what kind of ingredients they use to marinate it and in what conditions it was marinated. I can tell you many more arguments, actually, but here is another one: I believe they will never cook this lime and thyme chicken for you :D
Thanks much for your question and happy cooking @beautyfull!

Great recipe! Looks delicious! I kinda gave up on eating chicken for a while now but I am starting to reconsider my choices...

May I wonder why you gave up on eating chicken?
Many thanks for your comment :D

No worries! I gave it up because it too hard to find a good quality organic one to buy where I live now. It is hard to say what sort of conditions it was raised in, what kind of food it was fed but most of all, the issue is with antibiotics. The average chicken you can buy in a supermarket is pumped full of antibiotics which ends up introducing a lot of antibiotic-resistant bacteria into your food supply.

Uh, I see.
I've heard that turkey is safer in that sense.
But you are right, you never know these days...

Yeah, tricky subject really. Everyone goes about it in their own way. I've actually seen a chicken "factory" and it isn't a pretty sight. I would much rather buy it from a poor farmer that grows them around the house and feeds them by hand and doesn't pump them full of meds...

looks nice!

Thanks much @otellla!

Yummy....

Thank you @akiyoshi :D

I imagine from your post, it's like I want to eat grilled chicken .. really it makes me hungry ..
