It's down to unemployment. Take a look at this chart:
In the UK unemployment is 4.4%, in the US it's 3.8%, but in France it's 7.5%.
And the French govt thinks 7.5% is "good" because that is the lowest it's been for 15 years. You have to go back half a century to the mid 1970's to get unemployment below 4%.
No wonder the French are tired, stressed and thoroughly fed-up in the lead up to their hugely important National Assembly elections taking place on Sunday.
