It's time to dive into Brendan's Pseudoscience and Philosophy
Here's a concept that I use to comfort myself sometimes. I acknowledge that there's no reason to - well, whatever.
Here.
So, this donkey is at the center of her own universe. That's why she is experiencing being a 100-year-old donkey.
There's an idea out there that every time a quark spins, there are two universes: one in which it spins up and one in which it spins down. I'm sure I'm getting the details wrong, but that's where the beauty of pseudoscience thrives... in misunderstanding details and misapplying their consequences.
So, it's this big idea that there's a finite, but huge number of parallel universes. Every bit of information... every 0 or 1 of information in the cosmos, also exists in a universe where it went the other way. And each of those universes branches as well. You can see how these numbers get big quickly.
Well, to collapse the idea down to where I can understand it, I figure, in all of the universes where I exist, all of the possible choices I could have made and all of the consequences of them exist, too. So I needn't worry about living my best life. Some version of me IS. And then we jump to the intentionally insipid phrase, "the best of all possible worlds" in it, the speaker (who is being mocked by the author, by the way, so let's take this with a grain of salt... or not even. There's a world in which I chose the appropriate phrase for this idea, by the way, so please just pretend you're in that universe.) The speaker is talking about how the creator made this world and the creator is perfect so this must be the best of all possible worlds.
Anywho, shove the pseudoscience together with the pseudophilosophy and you come up with my idea that I, personally observing my own life, must be living in the universe in which my consciousness still persists. And since I can't imagine my consciousness being interrupted to flip to another universe, this must furthermore mean that my consciousness will persist forever. There are a bunch of steps that I'm ignoring because they don't make sense.
I hope we are all keenly aware of the absurdity of the human capacity for self-deception. Enjoy your anthood, worms. Or whatever. Sheeple? I don't mean to be rude. We're all just fleshbags who have the capacity for abstract thought, kind of.
Life... You won!
