Day 510 : 5 Minute Freewrite: Thursday - Prompt: fan

Oh how I love the stage!

I'm a bit different from many other actors in that I like the small but juicy parts. No big suck-up-your-life parts for me. I choose the ones that are tiny to medium sized, and sometimes I don't even have a word to say. Still I manage to work and work fine tuning my performance until it gleams, if only to me.

I work a lot with Diana Green, a powerhouse of a woman in the local theaters, from presenting short original writings of her own to full Shakespeare productions. She essentially freewrites scenes after doing lots of research and thought. Her writings are very multilayered and meaningful. I thought that was impossible until I started freewriting myself!

Diana has been writing small scenes based on Edward Hopper's works, which are then presented in the Hopper House of Nyack NY. These scenes are short, concise, and powerful. There are usually six of an evening and the audience travels among the Hopper House's rooms to view them all.

One of the theatergoers, who I often describe as my greatest fan, is Ray Wright. He is a fantastic photographer, and he takes pictures of all the scenes we present, Each time though, the pictures he takes are mostly of me!

In this picture, we were enacting Diana's vision of what might be going on in the painting "Conference At Night". We try to hit the actual poses in the paintings at some point in the scene. Coincidentally, Ray took this shot at almost the exact moment we were to hit the pose.

I'm the short one. My feet were killing me.

This is my entry to @mariannewest freewrite challenge https://steempeak.com/freewrite/@mariannewest/day-510-5-minute-freewrite-thursday-prompt-fan

As usual, I set the timer for 4:30 for freewriting, then proofread to my heart's content. I try not to edit though, just proofread.

The image is Ray Wright's, cropped a bit so that it would be right-side-up when I pasted it here, and I called him to ask his permission to use it.

I am here to support the adoptee as well as sending prompt, but I saw you have done the next one "turn signal"... So just want to give my support here and say "well done" for writing with us. :)

Uncle Bruni stopping by to read your creation. I bet it's fun to work in theater, I was never comfortable in plays during highschool. Nice work. 👍

Thank you Uncle. I now LOVE the stage, but I discovered this in college. In high school the closest I ever got to the stage was playing second fiddle in the pit for musicals. Good thing I loved doing that.

Whoa, you're an actress? I didn't realize that. And your friend Diana freewriting scenes, with Edward Hopper images as the prompt - how cool is that?? I love Hopper paintings, especially the iconic Night Hawks. That's really you in the photo? You look great! Love the vintage shoes and dress - and you fill it out nicely. Great figure! I'd love to see these performances live.

LOL - you look so much better than Hopper's stern model:

I felt like I was standing so very straight, but not as straight as she is! And oh I was very stern, I was the boss, unusual for 1949 (I think is was) and was about to fire that bloke. The standing guy was another employee's union rep. So much fun! Thanks for providing these.

Hopper paintings would make great #freewrite prompts too:

My monologue last year at the Hopper House was based on Automat!

I was at an acting class today and a lot of the students were improvising. Very similar to freewrites! many of them were astonished at what came out of them, there was some talk about trusting yourself and the audience. I didn't improvise today, but I think my experience freewriting will help me out with improv a lot.
