I was asked the following excellent questions by @belemo concerning this post:
- Are all farts flammable?
- Can I fart regularly into a container then harness it for cooking gas?
- Do farts affect the climate?
- What about farting contests? is that a thing?
Here is my reply:
Dear Belemo, thank you kindly for your feedback and your thought-provoking questions! Let's begin:
- I'm not sure, I only know mine are! I unfortunately have not had the time to test the farts of other members of the animal kingdom. However, after some basic research, I found out that someone has indeed taken the time to write a book about animals that fart!
And did you know that roaches fart: https://www.buzzfeed.com/jonmichaelpoff/animals-that-fart-does-it-far.
Birds apparently do not fart because they digest food very quickly.
And neither do octopuses:

2. Absolutely! Farting into a container and storing it for later use is quite possibly the best thing you could do to single-handedly prevent global warming and simultaneously save money by lowering your gas bill. However, you'll need a fairly large container if you want to cook anything for an extended period of time. Here's one man who is interestingly trying to live off of fart gas:
3. Well, you won't believe this, but the farts from termites alone contribute to 1% to 3% of all methane emissions: https://pursuit.unimelb.edu.au/articles/how-a-termite-s-mound-filters-methane-and-what-it-means-for-greenhouse-gases. Talk about being full of hot air!
4. So glad you asked! It seems like it should be a thing, but I've never heard of one. And burping contests too, right! Well, you'll be happy to note that I did find a fart competition online with a 10K prize! It's a bit old, 2012, but it just goes to show that these types of challenging contests do occur: https://www.mrmethane.com/fart-related-news/?newsid=196. In addition, here's a video from from a Howard Stern queef farting contest and I warn you, the woman highlighted is quite impressive:
And finally, I did fortunately manage to find a video about the World Burping Contest:
Enjoy and may the gas be with you!
