Game Jams: Great Way To Find Good Small Games

in gaming •  6 years ago

At the end of the last month Global Game Jam has been held in many countries around the world. More than 9000 games have been made in the event, and that's insane! If you play one entry each day you'll need 24 years to finish them all.

People create games in short time, usually in less than a week.
They work together to create small enjoyable experiences!

If you read my posts before, you may know that I'm interested in Game Development, while it's been long since I took part in any game jam, I'm interested in those events and sometimes I try to make something for some random Itch.io jams (sadly, I didn't make any playable game for a long time.)

Sine the start of this month. After hearing about initiative called #Freebruary, I thought about doing a series about free games, like my First Impression series I posted last year. But focusing on these small games that are resulted from game jams.

So I'm if there's demand for them I'm thinking of playing jam games from the various jams out there, and highlight the games that deserve a mention.

I'm thinking of doing this partly because I love Jupiter Hadely videos. She's a woman who plays (almost) every Jam games for couple of minutes and plays her favorites fully. She's one of the go to girls for indie game developers to get some press. I'm thinking it'll be awesome if I did written posts similar to her videos.

So what do you think?

Do you want to read posts about Jam games?
Do you think they'll be interesting?
Please tell me your thoughts in comments.

I didn't know about her but you've just earned her a new sub.

I'm rather wary of game jams nowadays. They used to be a good place to learn new tools and flex your creativity, but now they're full of cliques and in-groups that will tear you apart if you don't toe their line.

I didn't have a bad experience with them yet. Then again I'm the solo type that doesn't communicate with people much.
