Shots, explosions and guaranteed fun, are the correct words to define this game, a game full of action, where we will need our ability to overcome the waves of enemies that we find the scenarios, I'm talking about the mythical Metal Slug.

So today is the time for a new Retro Review of this classic action game.

To be honest, when playing Metal Slug I never paid full attention to its history, my motivation was: to shoot and eliminate as many enemies as I could, in addition to cause the greater destruction that could in the map, but its history goes like this:

Everything begins when two military groups are at war, because one of these, The Rebellion, is causing chaos and destruction around the world, being guilty of terrorism and assassinations.

But on the other hand there is The Regular Army, a group that is good and has spent years fighting the atrocities committed by The Rebellion and to eliminate them once and for all, the regular army was given the task of creating tanks of war called "Metal Slug", these tanks would be able to eliminate the entire rebel army and end once and for all with the war, but pitifully the place where the slug metal was assembled was taken by rebel forces and using these weapons against them.

That's when our two protagonists Marcos Rossi and Tarma Roving come into action, two friends belonging to the same squadron, whose mission is to recover the stolen tanks and destroy the enemy army.

Metal Slug is graphically brutal, I can not say otherwise, there are many games that pitifully thanks to our nostalgia we saw them of an excellent quality and then when we see it a long time later you will notice the fall of the years, but with this happens the opposite, the amount of details that this game possesses is excellent, both the art used in the scenarios, but especially in the vehicles that appear during the game, its quality of drawing is something incredible, details and a good drawing in each and every one of them.

Another house to highlight in the game are the animations, easily on the screen almost everything has an animation, even as simple as it may be, something that is really surprising, and even though the background of this game are flat, with these animations really gives life to the scenarios.

As for the sound, metal slug contains a great variety of melodies that are changed with respect we are going through the stages, some are energetic that adapt to the game mode where the main course action, at some point reminds me of Contra, where possibly from there drew inspiration.

The gameplay is simple, we move laterally in a scenario where we must go shooting all the enemies who dare to attack us, for this we count with a great amount of arms we will obtain as we go advancing in the game.

Although the gameplay is simple we must always be attentive to the attacks of our enemies, many times to go very fast between the scenarios we can lose sight of the pattern of attack that some of our enemies have, although the fun of this game is especially that: shoot everything we find, it is also advisable to know the patterns of attacks of enemies.

One of the humor points of this game are the hostages that are found in all the scenarios, which when released, these give us improvements and weapons as gratitude.

Metal Slug is one of the few games that has been able to overcome the challenge of time, is a game that until today remains in force despite the more than 20 years it has, a game recommended for those people who want to marvel for its excellent graphic quality and fun gameplay.

Awesome game, easily some of the best pixel art animations ever. Visuals hold up super well.

Years will pass and this game will remain as one of the best in pixel art.

I still have not gotten around to trying out the metal slug series will have to give them a play through very soon myself

I love this game.

Is very good :D

I'm going retro game crazy today! Yes metal slug. What platform did you play it on? I remember only playing it as a kid in coin slot Arcade form, and spending a lot of "pocket money"...

If I remember correctly, I played it on PlayStation 1.
